Jeffles, you still around?

  1. Jeffles, I may have need of someone who can receive a bit of Ducati in
the UK and hang onto it for a while why I locate a cheaper way to get
it to Oz than the 60 quid Royal Snail apparenly want....

Wouldn't happen to be able to bring a box back? Excess luggage
charges are bound to be less than the 60 quid...

  4. Don't bet on it. When I was over there British Airways/Qantas were
really coming down hard on it and the other airlines were about to
    follow.

    How heavy is it?

He'll be Down South where all the wankers are, however we could
arrange something and get your beloved centre stand to you I reckon.

Paul? How much is your sister worth? *evil grin*

Postage costs out of the UK are a real rip off, I buy my parts in Germany
and the cost of postage is less than half of UK costs.

Who do you buy from (I'm assuming here you are buying BMW bits?). I
have used Motobins, but none of the continental sources.

I know bugger all about UK geography... if you email me, then I will
cc to Jeffles and we can work out how to do it.

Which bit of Oz do you normally grace with your presence then?

I'm nowhere near London (thankfully...) and a hell of a lot nearer to
    Scotland.
Little spot on the coast called Newcastle upon Tyne (the one with the
bridge that was a scaled down trial version of your SHB. Built by
Dorman and Long of Middlesborough, which is just down the road... Not
a bad looking bridge if you like that sorta thing.)
So! If Paul wants to contact me we can arrange meet up/transfer of
    package/beer.

Yeah that seems fine Paul, don't appear to have owt doing for that
    weekend thus far.

Zebee: is the package from "Sharples" of 21 Castle Hill Avenue?
If so, it's arrived (and could probably do with being repackaged into
    something smaller).

That's it. And if you can make it smaller, then please do so! It
    isn't exactly fragile.

(as you'll see. Yes, what a bizarre thing to buy from someone on the
    other side of the world)

Many moons ago (like 1994), the Qantas rate for excess baggage was 1% of
the business class fare for that flight, PER KILO! So to bring back 20
kilos of excess luggage from the UK would have cost us ~$800.00

Hmm, another good reason for not flying with Qantas!

That is pretty much the standard rate for all International airlines, and
has been like, forever. The real question is do they want to piss off their
customers that badly. Most turn a blind eye to the first ten kg.

My (albeit limited) experience with Qantas has been that they do want to
piss off their customers, and they put a surprising amount of effort
    into it, too.

And now in collusion with British Airways, who are trying equally hard
to piss of their customers. They've now closed down all of their
outlets in London, and if you want to speak to someone in the flesh,
means going out to Heathrow. Tried telephoning them, but the lines
were bogged down. Fun - not.

I have read in some RTW travelogues, that Qantas are the only
international airfreight carrier who will charge by volume, rather than
weight for a crated motorcycle, meaning the cost of a 1 way trip from
east coast Australia to New Zealand is comparable or less than the
equivalent sea freight for a motorcycle, and rather than waiting 10 days
or so for it to arrive it can fly on the same flight as you.
