Jap Imports

  1. Dunno. I shall have a look tonight. I know the bike is an import
    though.

  2. Aye. Was an issue. For weeks aferwards, too. Took race can off outside
MOT garage (using their spanners, ahem). Fitted road legal can. Got
MOT. Rode around for a while with road can. Joined my first BOTAFOT.
Had a 'rattle' pointed out to me by Katryn, who'd ridden across with
me. Ignored warning. Had can pretty much fall off on BOTAFOT run.
Caused Lozzo and Petrolcan to have to stop and rescue me. In
gratitude, made sure Petrolcan was left behind when his bike broke
    further up the road. Oops.

Will make sure that whatever can is fitted, is fitted *properly* next
    time! ;o)

  3. Ooh, that site looks like it could be useful when i get round to
getting back on my bike and realise which bits are knackered from
    winter neglect.

Heh. I once did a similar thing, when I had a 'race' can fitted to a
road-modded XT500. The 'baffles' consisted of corrugated discs, and
you could add more or less depending on how much restriction/silencing
you wanted. For the MOT, I had to bung them all on before the tester
was satisfied, but neglected to properly tighten the retaining nut
    afterwards.

So one day later and I'm riding a completely open can, megaphone
    stylee. Nice, it was :)

Left it like that for several months too, before it went bang on me
    :-{

  7. I distinctly remember thinking "wow, am finally getting the hang of
this acceleration thing, it's sounding really good" just seconds
before Lozzo pulled me over to point out that the can was about to
    fall off.

    Ho hum.

A bit of regular exercise, combined with a sensible diet, should
enable you to get those bits that have fallen into recent disuse.

Ah, I don't have a road legal can to put back on. I'll prolly just turn
up at my usual place and see what happens.

If I do become aware of somewhere that isn't too picky, I'll let you
    know.

I'd have another if fools hadn't pushed the prices for an *E* into RD400
    territory.

You mean one of the 600s, I guess?

    Mine was a 1977 XT500D, like this
    http://members.tripod.com/ljthomp/images/xt77eur.jpg

Bloody silly (and heavy) standard exhausts, they had, although not
quite as bad as the original from a year or two earlier.

    You are Lozzo AICMF....
Oh no hold on, you had to look it up. He would have just known it
    instinctively.

That's it then. You would have to have owned or ridden every XT500
    registered in the UK.
