It's probable that nobody else can find the f*cker because we all
    even more disorganised than you.

  2. Shobba still does cartoons (for Truck & Driver magazine) and I daresay
he (or rather his copyright lawyers) would be pretty hot on anyone who
    did that.

Well, get onto him and tell him he needs to think about a retrospective.

    ^^^^

Grrrrr. I had a major run-in with a salesweasel this week. **** started
asking for second opinions on a report I'd written. After a great deal
of discussion it turned out that when he read "xxxxxxx has been mooted
as a solution", he thought that meant "rejected".

I don't think that my pointing out he was (a) illiterate, (b)
unprofessional and (c) a back-stabbing ****[1] went down very well.

What I've got planned next for him will go down even less well. <VBEG>

[1] I may have phrased this a little differently.

Heh. Does he think that you all sit round a table, calling out "Moot!
Moot!" at things you don't like, and making thumbs-down gestures?
If he can't take a bit of criticism, he doesn't belong in sales.
Try and work in something about a "pedagogical approach" and see if he
    bites.
    Shame.

    Well, quite
    Oh, I'm not that subtle.

"Nigel, can you take a quick look at this for me?"

"Sorry, you need to find someone whose technical opinions you can
respect and trust. Find someone else."
    No balls, that's my trouble.

As a term of disapproval? Go for it.
    "Is it in English?"
"...you backstabbing ****." Across a crowded office, in a loud, clear and
    penetrating voice.

Given that I don't want to upset any copyright holders too much, erm,
    now what?

Or simply post the ISBN and allow all interested parties to peruse (for
    example) Abebooks for a copy.

Just find my URL and stick that on the end. (Oo-er!)

Unfortunately, no ISBN. It's the freebie that came with Bike.

    might have noticed.

Now I'm going to go and sulk.

  14. step 4: get sued by the copyright owner.

If, AIUI, it's just the one cartoon which is the subject of this, then I'd
be inclined to contact the author and ask permission. scanning and passing
it around to a few friends is one thing, publishing it on the web, even
without search engines, may be another.

    On Sat, 18 Feb 2006 20:06:04 +0000,
Pretty fair point. TBH, I'd be very pissed off if it was my work,
especially if it were commercial stuff. I don't think I'd be too
unhappy about the odd picture sent privately, though.

No - but do you delete messages as they're read? I haven't exactly
    flooded the group with posts...

I set an expiry period on news in each group and presume that most
    people do the same.

I remember one, which I sure was a Shobba one. It was a picture of a bike
with a big cowled radial engine stuffed into the frame, and the caption
"Heroic British Failures - No.38: The Triumph Trodent".
