Well no, because sandwiches, cups of coffee and radios don't engage you in
conversation likely to distract your attention. Nor are they held up to
the side of your head, thus restricting at least a part of your peripheral
    vision on that side.

Why? Do something stupid and dangerous that could injure or kill someone,
then as far as I'm concerned, you should suffer the same penalty that you'd
have risked, had your action in fact injured or killed. Why should you
get a 'softer' sentence, because you were lucky?

The logical conclusion to this argument is that speeding should carry
    the same sentence as manslaughter

Reckless Driving hasn't carried a possible prison sentence since it
ceased to exist as an offence 16 years ago (RTA 1991).

You can already be "done" for eating sandwhiches or drinking in the car,
even at traffic lights when you're stopped.

Just held to that open orifice right n the middle of your face. Anyway, it's
moot where the sarnie or drink is held, if it's in your hands you CAN be
    prosecuted for it.

Irrelevant. You might as well claim that if you fire a gun in a crowded
street and by luck 'no **** [gets] killed', the shooter should walk away.

  16. I've just realised what the conspiracy theory behind all this is...
we'll have men walking in front of cars with a red (Labour) flag,
    before long.

years the way I ride has been legal?

I'm sure that argument will work well with the magistrates, but so far it
    hasn't.

Well he certainly wouldn't get topped for it now (even if we still had the
death pnealty for murder), would he? Your logic is a bit flawed on this one

'manslaughter' is just a word applied to a certain set of circumastances
leading to death. You don't need to use that 'word'. Just tell drivers
that if they deliberately do something selfish and cunting at the wheel
that could result in the death of another human being, then they're going
to incur the same penalties that they would have, had their act in fact
    caused death.

It's not rocket science. Even UKRM should be able to grasp it.
