My understanding of IQ is that, without wanting to get too heavily into
statistical mumbo-jumbo, the average is by definition 100 and vice
versa. Therefore as the average intelligence of the population increases
by way of eugenics you'd have to re-baseline it.

Except it isn't. Sure, it's supposed to be based around 100 being the
population norm, but attemps to measure it have to remain on a fixed
scale, so in practice the baseline 100 would/will never be shifted.

did you mean to say the top 1%? because otherwise this statement seems to be
so obvious as to be nearly tautological.

I might be selling one of them soon...
100-400 IS USM L series - lovely bit of kit. I've probably only used it
a dozen times, but it's handy to have.

    Well... Probably :)
I quite agree with you there - I felt that Fred was being made a whipping
boy to detract attention from the real baddies. La Harman is a fucking
stupid old bitch and should be firstly slapped raw then shot for the good
of the nation, to be fair about it.

Drop me an email when you do.
    I can't afford L-series lenses.

Will do - might be this weekend or next - depending on how far my
    birthday money goes.
Nor can I - but they are so good...

    you still owe me.

Assume, for one moment, that you are the new (and only) darsy Party MP
for Darsytown, nr Enfield. (outer London)

How high-profile, and responsible, do you think your job will be for
    the next five years?

How much time will you spend away from home?

How many will remember you in five years time?

Assuming you stick to the rules[1], you could still have pocketed the
thick end of a million quid by the time you get voted out for being
    anonymous.

Sadly, a little bit sooner than I can do. I'll have to leave it.
    Thanks anyway.

Nah, you go for it if you want it. I'd not be able to afford it this
month. Just booked the summer hols.

That would have been bad news for Rt Hon Michael Martin MP, that
    would.

Alan Johnson was a postman, ffs, and he's being talked about as a
    potential PM.

Pray tell what exceptional skills were demonstrated by Miliband,
Cameron, Clegg, Brown, etc that marked them out as MP material.

    Exactly.

    :)

I am now the proud owner of a rather nice 24-105 IS USM L series... So
offers (by email if you like) for the 17-85 IS USM - still got the box
etc. Including a lens hood and UV filter...

If Ben's not interested (which he says not) feel free Paul - I think you
have my email - but simesa at gmail dot com will get to me.

It's not as if we have press gangs roaming the streets at closing time
on the lookout for likely candidates, is it?

I expect *most* could only dream of that.

  18. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, SD
It's always fascinated me that "going against the whip" is held up as a
black mark against MPs. I would regard that as a good thing.

But then again, I rile against the whole "Ya-booo! He did a U-turn!"
    thing.

If one, just *one* politician had the balls to stand up and say "I have
listened to the arguments, thought deeply, and decided that my original
position was wrong. I support the position originally posited by my
opponents." I would probably have to marry them and have their babies.

    But it will never happen.

You might want to consider closing the odd window or door.
and putting new washers on some taps.
