I'm under no illusions as to what he's going to end up costing.

I'll keep a note somewhere and ensure my retirement home costs about
    the same.

Average monthly outgoings for the last 12 months:

Fixed transport costs (insurance, travelcard, etc): £282.34
Variable transport costs (fuel, tyres, etc): £279.55
    Groceries: £124.96
Fixed bills (power, DSL, cleaner, council tax, etc): £225.08
    Variable bills (mobile, etc): £72.96

    Subtotal: £984.89

If I subtract running costs for my fleet, the total is more like 500
    quid.

Now the interesting bit: non-essential spending.

    Cash: £282.75
    Sundry: £840.00
    Fleet running costs: £450
    Subtotal: about 1500 quid.

So that's 500 quid a month (plus rent) for a roof over my head, and a
grand and a half maintaining a comfortable lifestyle. Discuss.

Well you are not surprised if I say they just need to radically lower
    the overall taxation!

But anyway, let me give you my business head take on the whole thing.
Taxation collection costs a VAST amount of money. Local and national. So
do away with the local collection of taxes altogether.

OK so we have just boosted the amount of funds available to the system
and reduced the amount of Civil Servants by an enormous amount.

I don't disagree with the idea of a PAYE levy for local expenditure, it
just appears as another line on your pay slip/tax return.

So, now, that is SUCH a good idea, like legalising drugs and selling
them through pharmacies, why on earth would you not enact it
    immediately.

    Discuss.

And, simultaneously, removed one of the major differentiators between
parties bidding for local authority control.

Hold on a mo... Were you thinking of centralising all the things that
    local authorities currently run?

Westminster organising bin wagons, fire & police, education etc etc etc?
    <shudder>

  6. Why should you be paying out for a 20 yo?

No you numpty. The rate, depending on where you live, still set by you
local authority, but collected as PAYE at national level and forwarded
along with the central govmint contribution to local services.

Some things should be centralised but delivered locally IMHO.

    Gotcha.

But you think that's going to make things easier?

I left school at 16 and paid taxes which paid towards your education
so **** you, you owe me.

    Make what easier?

But I'm betting you at least 20% of your local tax bill is spent on
collection and enforcement. And what I'm suggesting should be around
    5%.

How about a power station rather than a factory?

Don't bother answering because I know the answer...

Actually you would make a good MP. Curiously enough.

The whole collection & enforcement shenanigans.
    Not. A. Chance.

If anything, it'll add complexity - you'll need to get the employer to
relate PAYE to residential address, then factor in any second homes/
    discounts/benefits. Managing over-payments or under-payments or changes
of address part way through a tax year will be a mess, too.

You've got my vote (as long as you're not standing for the greenies).

When you consider the work I do and my choice of personal transport I
somehow think that standing for the weird party might not be an
    option.
