They are the running dog designed to send people toward UKIP - the
    acceptable face of fascism.

I will chime in with my bro-in-law who is an electrician /and/ gas
engineer. Easily earns more - would earn far more if he got out of bed
for more than 4 days a week.

Exactly the same as everyone else. I'm buying a service, just as I buy
my gas, water and electricity. I don't expect to get it cheaper than
another user, and I don't expect to have to pay more.

I have already made the greatest contribution to the fight against climate
change that I can make: I have decided not to breed. Now quit bugging me and
go and talk to the Catholics.

So - is that 1500 quid a year or should it be a quarter of your income?

My, you do have a bad case of the BB conspiracy blues.
As far as the Torygraph goes, you may have a point.

However, I, for one, will never vote for a party that has
elected someone as their leader who, for some bizarre
reason, reminds me of a cross between Toad of toad
hall and the dungaree wearing fool from Rainbow.

Take the council's budget. Divide it by the number of adults living in
    the area. That's how much.

So Mr £1m-quid-a-year-both-working-couple-no-kids should pay the same as
    Mrs-single-parent-three-kids-two-jobs?

Am I wrong in assuming that you see no reason to pay for services you
don't use or do you believe that we should pay for the good of the
    community as a whole?

I know of a lot of people employed as 'fitters mates' or 'handyman
grade 2' who earn over £60k per annum and while they have to work away
from home most of the time they have **** all responsibility at work
and just cut and run when a better offer comes along.

I'm quite happy to pay for services I don't use if they are for the
benefit of the community as a whole.

Does Mrs-sptktj get her electricity cheaper than Mr-2mqaybwcnk?

    Why not?

What about non-council expenses? Armed forces, roads etc? Same
    principle but national budget?

Because electricity is charged by the amount used. Public sector services
    are not.

Does she pay the same amount into the national exchequer? Why not?

    Well now.

We have a well-established system of income tax that pays for those
(along with the various consumption taxes, of course). I don't think
it's particularly well set up (it starts too low, for one thing), but I
    don't suppose it'll change much.

Of course, much council expenditure does come from central government,
so everyone already pays an element according to their income.

I simply don't see why that needs to be extended.

My thinking on this is, of course, coloured by seeing my idle fucking
neighbour who hasn't done a stroke of work in the last twenty years
sitting with his hand out, lapping up every penny he can get.

No, Mr-2mqaybwcnk makes a much larger contribution to government
already. Why ask him to pay even more for local services?

Used to be better didn't it?
    I don't suppose it will.
So you agree with the principle of payment according to means rather than
    just sharing the cost equally?

I think everyone earning over the modal income level (IIRC about 15.5k)
should pay income tax at a rising rate - with a low starting rate for
    those under the average income.
That I can sympathise with. A mate's daughter - single parent - is about
the be rehoused because the brand new 2 bed house supplied by the tax-
payer is not big enough now she has two sons. Has to be 3 bedroom.

I can think of plenty of hard-working people who can't afford what she's
getting for free. The benefits system has to support those who need it,
but sometimes it does seem to benefit them that just hold out their hands
at the expense of those who try to help themselves.
