    Haha, we've discussed this before.

I believe it can be summed up as 'the fun handle turns both ways'.

My fleece jacket hasn't got any armour but if I'm out on the Kawasaki
and wearing only a fleece, jeans and trainers it never occurs to me to
ride any differently to normal in case I crash.
Never have done, never will do.
Trackdays I wear leathers but in all honesty I'd probably do the first
'warm up' session in just a jacket if I was allowed to.

That's your problem and not mine.

I always tell myself that if I'm not wearing leathers I'll go a bit
easier, and then I find myself riding like a dick anyway. Lets face it,
I didn't even own a set of leathers for the first 12 years I was riding,
so I've never been that paranoid.

Never been on a track, which might sway the statistics, but I've worn
leather trousers twice now, in very nearly 30 years.

I'll admit to a cavalier outlook wrt safety nazism, but it still feels
    "wrong" to go gloveless.

I went lidless once, by accident. It was a bit odd.

I've got to admit that I wear gloves even when I'm out wearing the
    bare minimum of protective kit.

I blame it on the fact that I've broken numerous fingers over the
years and had too many stitches to remember in my hands but if I
completely **** my hands I can't do my job.

I don't remember you wearing gloves when we were trusting our lives to
Mr Murray doing a lap of Chimay in the sidecar last year but I think
his riding was probably the least of your worries.

Just wanted to point out that some people might give a toss what they think.

Ah, yes, but, er, I was pillioning, and I only do that in two
circumstances: absolute necessity (three times not including that
event) and absolute drunkenness (that event)

Hanging in my wardrobe are a pair of leather pants and a matching leather
jacket that were bought for bike riding when I was nowt more than a
teenager. No armour, very "Marlon Brando" looking and much "cooler" than
denim ever was, not to mention much more comfortable. The bloody things
still fucking fit me too, but it'd be a crime to wear them now because
someone would be SURE to shout something YMCA-ey as I tootled along the
    highways and byways.
