I've wanted one of these for longer than I can remember...

  1. Great project vehicle. Bung in a Toyota twink with 5sp box, fit the
Marina discs and do a coilover conversion to the front.

Nice little Q-car then. Just to complete the honeypot, you could drive
around in it whilst wearing a cap and smoking a pipe.

There was a nutter in Practical Performance Car recently who had a
turbocharged Fiat Twin-Cam in his. Supposedly goes quite well.

There was one on Ebay a few months ago with a V8 in it. Wider rear
wheels and the roof had been lowered but otherwise the only clue was
the V8 badge on the rear door. I've got the Cooper for fast though.
This is for plodding about locally.

Thus spake Dan L () unto the assembled multitudes:
29 years ago I helped a mate change the knackered engine block in his, from
a scrap one which had a working engine. After a day's heaving, grunting
and swearing, work was complete. That's when we discovered the gearboxes
weren't the same and the new engine wouldn't turn with the old 'box. Cue
lots more swearing and reconvening the next weekend to complete the job.

Yeah, but it doesn't 'trumpet' from the back the way a proper Moggie Minor

There was a company in Edgware (norf Lunnun) that used to specialise in
doing pretty much that but with the 2 litre twin cam fiat engine.
    Apparently they went like stink.

Nah. Do the job properly with a Rover V8 like Nick Mann:

His 'Mannic' is a bit special too.

My first car was a Moggy saloon. It belonged to my Grandmother who was
two old to carry on driving, fairly low milage. A series overhead valve
engine. I don't remember the brakes being dodgy but the saloon was
lighter than the estate. Fuel consumption was impressive provided you
stayed under 60. Northampton to Cardiff round trip on one tank of petrol
with some left over. It went to my sister when I got a Marina and she
eventually sold it on. Nice car and one of the best sellers Morris ever
    produced.

Off course the original engine was intended to be a flat four. That's
why you had so much room in the engine compartment.

    coughed up:
Heh, same thing happened with my first MM (1964 Model). Gearbox died
so I obtained one from a MM Van. Flywheel fouled the bellhousing, so
out it came for a replacement from the scrapyard.

  12. Actually, in 4-wheel terms, it's more fun in a lot of ways than the 4x4
sierra. It's extremely frustrating these days driving a fast car, while in
the Landy, it's not a problem to cruise at 50. And yes, it will.

  13. IME, the fun gets curtailed quickly by fetching up behind the next queue of
traffic caused by an old fogey in a Nissn micra; more or less any main road
in the country unless you drive very early in the morning or on Sunday
morning when the Nissan micra drivers are all at church.

You've also got to make sure that you're out before or after the horsey
set is clogging up the roads by towing trailers down main roads at
    29mph everywhere.

  15. yeah, them too. some of the worst driving I've seen is the occasional (not
professional) horse-box drivers. Usually it's a shagged Bedford TK, well
past it's sell-by date and belching oil smoke, and you can bet yer life
it'll cut corners, slow down to walking pace on bends, and other silliness
in the interest of not upsetting the critters within.

I used to drive horses around semi-pro, and the main thing is smoothness,
which doesn't necessarily equate with slowness, although of course you do
drive at a reasonable speed and employ plenty of forward obs. so as to not
get caught out and have to stand on the anchors.

Yebbut, yer can still pass Nissan Micras in a Landrover if yer don't GAS and
yer arse doesn't fall out of yer pants.

  19. that's all fine, but round here where the roads are wiggly, the
opportunities to pass things (except on a bike) are limited and the few
straight bits are inevitably full of twonks coming the other way.

And I'm not into the sort of manoeuvre some (I think, from a quick glance)
blonde bird did today - passing me in transit plus 16-ft trailer with
another transit on the back; OK so far, except that I was doing 40 and
accelerating (leaving a village), and there was an oncoming land rover
discovery all of about 80 yards ahead. Very iffy move indeed - It'd have
been worthy of a raised eyebrow if done by a sports bike, frankly, although
not really dangerous considering the much higher acceleration and smaller
    size of such a thing.
