I've just seen a jet fly overhead.

Does that mean the skies are open again?

    <googles>

    hmmmm, "test flights"

Looks like no hope for Venice for us.

Arse, I *hate* chucking money away.

As of right now, there's a BA flight in the air LHR to CWL and three
hardy souls from Germany effing off to the Caribbean.

Interesting. Isn't there a marine version of this too?

I got this message on the website (I've also seen similar on youtube):
"We strongly advice all Internet Explorer users to switch to another
browser, like Firefox, Chrome, Opera or Safari. Internet Explorer is
not powerful enough to run this website."

Which is bollocks because IE was apparently displaying it just fine.
There does appear to be a concerted anti-IE campaign on ATM.

    Yes, there is: http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/

It only shows ships with active AIS transponders (some ships
turn off their transponders when in the area of Gulf of Aden, for
example ;-))) and in the range of AIS system.

  6. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Champ
As would I, with *some* airlines. Others have a reputation for leaning
    on their crews somewhat heavily.

Indeed, the captain's arse is in the front seat so he is the first to
get splatted if it all goes wrong. If you dont trust the captain's
judgement you should never be going near an aircraft to begin with.

Frankly chaps you are spouting bollocks from this POV over 'ere. I've
holidayed with some civil aviation pilots, their perception of risk is most
certainly not mine. Major Airline civil aviation in the EU/Transatlantic
has achieved the apparently negligible risk bracket that makes me feel warm
and cozy and I'd like to keep it that way (not accounting for ragheads).

    No don't mention AF447, SK686 or AF4590

I like risk, I like to be in charge of and responsible for said risk. I
mean, what sort of lunatic would trust themselves to shoddy old Soviet
    aeroplanes and 'Copters.

  9. *ding* Bring it on.

I've got to fly to the UK on Saturday, and from there to Germany on
    Monday. Fingers crossed.

  13. That's a positive sign. Though I'd rather not go, if there's a risk
of getting to Scotland and not getting anywhere else.

I've been there - been to a Rangers -v- Celtic match in fact - I just
    made sure I didn't /stay/ there.
