I've got an itch to scratch.

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Whinging Courier, Jun 13, 2005.

  1. With so many big bikes out there I want to try a few.

Which ones should I try first. Gixxer thou obviously but what others?

I want something that's going to be quicker and lighter than mine, and
that's not as easy as it sounds. ATM, it looks like the litre plastic
fantastic from the big four, but what about the others?

Also, any recommendations on (black) leather bike gear, specifically
jackets, that won't look out of place off as well as on the bike.

    Cheers.

There aren't any others. Only the Suzuki. Where on earth did you get the
    idea there were other options?
    LOL

What's so funny? I'm working now and beginning to give a shit about my
    appearance.

Heh, actually, I see what you mean ;)

The fact that you could consider biker gear in any other light and that you
    have to ask for recommendations.

Well, my experience of bike gear is limited to bargain basement, sub
£100 fabric jackets or poncy over-priced stuff that I don't want any
more after wearing it more than a few times. I want something I can wear
as a jacket but will be good in a crash. I've got good bike jackets but
they're just too damn hot for summer.

I'm also beginning to think about buying a new (to me) bike.

That's the type of thing. If they do it without the white Wolf logo,
    that would almost be perfect.

I'll probably have hanged myself long before becoming a syle guru, which
I suppose would make me more of a concept artist..

    Damn!

Wolf make pretty good leathers too, mine are only a bit used but Bonwick
crashed in his quite a lot when he was racing - IIRC the only time I
think he came of worse was the time he got stuck under the bike...

It's funny, innit. I really liked the look of it last night but I don't
fancy it in quite the same way now. It's the same thing when I buy a
jacket, too. It's a bloody expensive hobby I can tell you.

I'll have a more "deeper" look when I get in later, this bike jacket
thing is fraught with buying-the-wrong-thing syndrome.

I don't know if you were about but I flogged a Furygan jacket on eBay
last summer, I'd only worn that two or three times. That was black with
a bit of blue in it. It went for £124 IIRC. Turned out the bloke was a
muppet and insisted the thing was XL and not L despite me buying the
thing originally and seeing the labels on the thing...

It's quicker than a brand new 05 reg CBR600, lighter yes but quicker,
no. It's also quicker than a few of the BOMB runner's bikes :)

    faster (top speed) <> quicker.

I'd be pretty surprised if any of the current crop of supersports 600s
couldn't easily out-accelerate your old bag of shite.

    f=ma, old bean.

Quite so. I'd also be surprised if the current crop of 600s didn't
have a higher top speed, either, given that they'll all do 160mph or
    so.

At Snetterton last year I could keep with the GSXR600's down the
straight bits. Porls mate on his GSXR1000 however...
