    ....from riding my bloody pushbike.

I used to ride about 300+ kms per week on the damned thing until I bought a
powered bike about 3 years ago.

So today I dragged out the beast and did a quick 14km spin with a few nasty
hills, got completely stuffed and had my ass hammered into next week by the
tiny racing seat. A modern racing bike has no suspension, 1cm wide tyres
running about 100psi and a seat the size of a mobile phone. I am a raving
heterosexual and it doesn't take much to create pain in the back door
    region.

After something of a recovery, I noticed there beer count had reached zero
so hopped on the XX and blasted up to the local drive-through. The big
Honda has a wiiiide comfy seat, does more than 12 up steep hills and as I
blasted homewards with a case of Hoegaarden in the tankbag I wondered what
the hell I was thinking earlier.

I'm buggered if I know why I'm telling you all this but some insight may be
gleaned from the added note that those beers are going down very well
    indeed.

    Sitting sideways...

recovering.... And I thought that that area was FLAT!

The good old days when we had buns of steel....I used to ride around a fair
bit too clocking up aroud 500k's a week (it was 50 k's to work and back
again). When summer and the big races come around I get an urge to go riding
but have managed to hold myself back. Would love to do it again one of these
    days...

    Hi Col,

Well there you go - had to outdo me by 200 kms/wk! :)

Yes you're right. These days I'm sporting a bit of a spare tyre and back in
those cycling days of interval training, long grinds, racing - both
mountainbike and road, I was buff mate, buff! In the blink of an eye I've
gone to seed - not good for the fans.

Getting back into the saddle is fraught with pain and suffering (and being a
few years older doesn't help) but (and don't let this get out amongst the
lot in this ng...) - like you I miss those days of powering myself around
the place. I remember holding 50 to 55 all the way up from the bottom of
the Pac. Hwy almost to Crows Nest with those big (shaved... mmmm) pistons
pumping away - hundreds of chicks looking on in awe, could have been
thosands. What a buzz (for them). Of course those speeds are a snap on the
XX but it's just not the same. :)

So just do it mate - the iron butt thing happens pretty quickly and your
bike misses you. Do it for the fans, and those big shaved legs look and
feel the go eh? hehe Just don't neglect the other bike(s) though.

    Cheers,

I've been told that before Cam! Perhaps riding the damned thing is wrong in
    itself eh?

Naah - have to get fit again - perhaps I'll fit a big Corbin to the bike.
    Giant TCR1 aluminium/carbon bike - 11kg, Corbin seat - 6kg - could have a
slight impact on dynamics but imagine the cred amongst the cafe mob.

    Cheers,
    Dave

You only love me for my Hoegaardens - biatch.
Yeah - faaark. Winter sucks the big one.
Cycle + wine tour - never been convinced that's an optimal combination mate.
Get that missus to drive - train her early. Didn't work for me though...

    Cheers,

    Hi Tim,

You certainly can. My local bottle-o is the El-Rancho in North Ryde ("the
Raaaanch") and they stock a number of fancy beers. The 'Hoees' aren't the
cheapest so don't buy just before your mates are coming over for a BBQ! :)

On the subject - I have a cheap-ass mate who secretly pours VB from cans
into Crownie bottles for his guests. I'm not affected - hate both of them
but he's always pretty chuffed with himself when he does it.

They also sell Erdinger, Chimay and other such delights by the case if
you're into that kind of thing (I am on the odd occasion).

    Cheers,
    Dave

Mate, don't remind me. At least the bastard is behind bars. I've been
subpoenaed to appear as a witness against him. I'm told he's up on far more
serious charges - will be good to be able to nail the sucker. Should be a
long and tough day - a full day in court to stand up and say I didn't give
anyone permission to steal my Ducati. I think I get a whole $8 per hour for
my trouble. Great system we've got.

    Cheers,
    Dave

How many cases can you fit on the bike? Theoretically I can probably fit
about 8 into 2 tankbags and 3 panniers. The bike would be a hell of a whale
    though! :)

I routinely got 2 30can cases of VB or new on the back of the
ZZR250... Extrapolated, that means I should be able to get
eight cases on the back of the YZF1000.

Saw a really neat bike for you a few weeks ago, up at PITS.

A carbon fibre recumbant with all the fruit....disc brakes, squillions
of gears, and anything that wasn't c/f seemed to be titanium.

The guy riding(?) it was so low that even I could look down on him, and
    I was on the Z50.

    Hi Cam,

Methinks you can buy Sothwark (great drop, I agree) at the Gordon bottleshop
from memory. There are a few places with real beer boffins around stocking
decent stuff. I'll see what I can find out.

Have you tried Dan Murphy's in Strathfield/Hornsby?

Hmmm - not sure about those recumbants. They are supposed to be damned fast
downhill - smaller wind profile I guess. One of the (few) safety aspects of
a normal pushbike in traffic is the height. I sit much higher on the Giant
than I do on the XX (excpet when I'm completely buggered and slumping of
    course!).

Do you know how much it was? They're around 10 grand aren't they for
    something stuffed with carbon?

    Cheers,
    DJE
