I've got a horrible feeling...

I liked it, but... Well, I never bonded with it. It always felt like a
potential liability, something expensive/painful waiting to happen. I did
lots of silly things on it, but it was when I was doing the sensible,
low-speed thing that I got hit.

I think the thing I liked best about it was the looks, and the general
Blower-Bentley-esque character. But it was a huge chunk of ballast to be
    responsible for.

I have an uncomfortable feeling that you may be close to the truth.

    "Differently sensible".

I get it, occasionally. Normally when there's a wait between buying a
thing and getting it. With most things you buy them, take them home and
know straight away whether it was a good buy or not (like a new CD).

I suffered it briefly whilst waiting for my SV, and also on the last car
I bought, both of which turned out very well.

I think I just need to care a little less...

    I get it occasionally.

Usually when buying something and there's /that/ voice but I just tell it
"I can't hear you" and buy away.

It's only a bit later, couple of weeks maybe, I hear it saying "Told you
so, Tosser". Well I'll tell you what I tell it: "I don't fucking care I
like it and it's instructional". That shows it.

I get a different voice when I'm driving trains but that's the backward
record one I call him the "do it man just do it" voice. I don't like him.

Hmm, if that's all you're going to use it for, I would have got a GSX-R600
    or 750 instead.

Just because no one has a positive word to say doesn't mean they have a
    negative one either.

I think only a handful of people *own* an SV1000 on this group - read into
that if you will - but I'd say you'd be more interested in their opinion's
than the hundreds of people who don't.

There are people who will always recommend a sports bike - for some people
that's a good choice, others who'll recommend something practical and those
    who'll recommend crap like CG125's.

Buy because you want to, not because of what everyone else thinks - they
won't be the ones cursing with backache after a 100 mile ride or wondering
how to pick up a 300kg motorcycle on the other end of the scale.

Elsewhere you've commented on how you are only going to use it for short
rides and 7 miles to work - if that is the case, then I stick with the
comment that you *might* have more fun with a GSX-R - BUT you might find
the SV gets you interested in riding that little bit farther and more often.

I seem to recall mention of having a 9R before - but that might have been
    one of those Nick blokes.

See, that's why I got the DL-V ... it carves it's own furrow (slowly) and
doesn't really have to live up to anything.
