I've finally done it.

  1. I appreciate this won't be of much interest to everyone, if anyone at
all but to all the soothsayers:

I have, within the last hour, completed my UK passport application.

I will be posting it this evening.

    That is all.

  3. You'd do better to take it to the post office and use their validation
service. They check that you have filled in everything correctly and that
your photos are acceptable etc. and forward it to the passport
authorities. It only costs a few quid and avoids the risk of your
application being rejected because of some silly detail.

When I renewed mine recently it turned out that my photos weren't
acceptable because my eyes weren't within the narrow region permitted. The
post office told me this so I nipped down to the photo booth and got some
new ones and took it back again. Much quicker than having the passport
office reject it and having to send it in again.

    Regards, Ian

  4. Completely agree - money very well spent. Also speeds up the application
    process.

I get through a large number of passport applications so I never use
the checking service. I sent my passport off for renewal (yet another
extra-thick passport needed, I've got through three in 3 years as I
run out of pages) and decided that I would change my photo, so I paid
some bloke £4.99 in a high-street store to get them taken and printed.

Took them home, filled in the form, posted it off with the old
passport and new photos and yesterday I got a brown envelope marked
"On Her Majesty's Service." After thinking "oh shit, I must have been
REALLY naughty" it turned out the UKPA rejected the application on the
grounds the photos do not match up to section 7 of their requirements
as they're ever so slightly out of focus. I quickly marched back to
Ashford and had them re-taken (FoC, obv) and have just sent them
    again.

Well done. As other have suggested, take it to the PO so they can
check it over. Don't be put off if you've done it wrong and need to
fill it in again (and again...) as it's very, very common for the
application to be rejected if it's not 100% perfect. If you've had
photos taken with you smiling then get them taken again as you need to
have a neutral expression (not smiling, not frowning) with your gob
    closed.

I've never had any problems, however I've taken my forms straight to the
passport offices in the past since I've needed renewals in a hurry.

Why is the runner a non-runner? Despite impressions to the contrary you
may have come to from some of my posts, I rate the Runner. There is a
long and great tradition of two-strokes bearing the name 'Gilera'. If
you have got any particular problems with it I could put you in touch
    with SWK at Piaggio.

That's what I was thinking. There are about 25 pages available in a
passport. Apart from odd countries like Russia/China/Turkey/Australia
who insist on proper visas that take up a page, most places just use a
stamp/ticket arrangement; which means on average 1/2 a page per trip
    (based on my experience.)

To fill a passport in a year would require amounts of travel beyond that
I can comprehend... especially for someone as omnipresent as BGN.

I work in an area of the business that deals with cruises which
involves quality checking, etc. so a week on board can accumulate
quite a few stamps, especially when one travels to more long haul
    destinations.

Is 'cold seizure' an issue on the Runner/DNA motors? Just wondering, as
you may take it gently to run it in, then give it the beans too soon
once you think it is. The GFR 125 is notorious for this effect. That has
a temperature gauge though, so you can watch for the 'dip' as the
thermostat opens and not cane it until there is no danger of cold
coolant suddenly rushing in to the cylinder coolant passages.
