Its time for a new bike

I made a mistake of subscribing to online Bikepoint and am reading reviews
and it has me thinking very seriously about getting a new bike.

Have a 2003 BMW R1150R with around 40,000 k's on the clock , panniers, top
box and tank bag. It has slight damage where it fell of the stand ( marks on
the motor and thats it ) . Now should I sellit privately or trade it in ? I
hate the idea of people test riding it. What would be a good price to ask
for private sale and what should I expect as a trade in ?

Now I enjoy the comfort of this bike but a little bit more power would be
nice ( not after a sports bike as my wrists dont like them ) . The Honda
ST1300 is just a little bit pricy but depending on the value of the BMW its
a possibility as is the BMW 1200 ( not sure of the model name ) Ideally have
$10,000 ( I can stretch it a little bit more if I like the new bike ) cash
    plus BMW .

Now I dont want to go visiting bike shops at the moment because I have no
control and would be an easy target for any salesman. So suggestions for
bikes and any links to reviews appreciated.

btw: saw the top box for the Honda is nearly $800, christ talk about rip
    offs

footnote: and yes I know, I really dont need a new bike but have a little
bit of cash and that URGE

As a trade its worth about $8,000 to $8,500 depending what you trade it on,
    a private sale between $10,000 to $11,000.

Lettuce know what you're offered for the trade. I don't really want an
R1150R but I would like another oil-head so the Missus might be persuaded
to let me take it off your hands for trade-in + $500 or somesuch..

Is it something you do with her that makes her melt and want you to have
    a new toy or,

is it that if you have a new toy you'll be outta the house more, and
will be less inclined to keep doing it with her? Sorry.

If a) doesn't work then b) is a dependable standby!

  6. Tell Michelle its closer to the ground than the GS was. Less distance to
    fall.

Sorry Clem, I sold your Virago today, I could do you something nice in a XL
R1100RS, black to match the bruises perhaps.

I will keep that in mind, however I would not worry most riders will be in
    front of you any way.

    not to worry

as for the new toy, well spending another $19,000 after trade in is a bit
    rich for me as well

will be looking at different bikes in the meantime and will put the bike up
for sale online for around the $12 k mark and if it sells I will then
    definitely get a new bike
