It's pouring down with rain and it's still 35c at 23:30hrs. It's fun just to
watch the people ride their bikes with umbrellas. They are nuts out here.

    Are you still in Thailand?

Last time I was there I was rather scared by the lack of helmets
and/or the amount of people wearing open faced ones.

I remember the first time my wife and I walked down Sukhumvit (i think)
road, Bangkok, watching the Thai motorcyclists fleeing about between the
5 lanes of traffic, which appeared to have no rules as to direction,
with 3 and 4 people on each bike and umbrellas and folded newspapers to
"protect" them. It was quite a sight and one I shan't forget.

When I was in Malta on business a few years ago my driver seemed to be
switching from one side of the road to the other. I asked him which side of
the road do you drive on in Malta. His answer was sweet. "The shade".

end of October but unfortunatly I volunteered to house sit for a
    friend and forgot my dates.

    The FCO website says:

    ""
    Road Safety

Riding a motorcycle or scooter in Thailand can be dangerous. An
average of 38 people a day die in motorcycle accidents in Thailand.
You should take the same safety precautions as in the United Kingdom.
The Thai law that safety helmets must be worn is widely ignored: a
contributing factor in many tourist deaths each year.

The motorcycles or scooters available for hire in beach resorts are
usually mopeds of less that 50cc. They are not registered as a vehicle
and cannot, consequently, be used legally on a public road.
Motorcycles or scooters of under 50cc are not covered by insurance and
if there is an accident, the hirer is responsible for any damage or
loss of the vehicle or injury to a third party. When the motor cycle
is over 50cc you should check your travel insurance policy carefully
to ensure that you are covered. Before you hire a vehicle check the
small print of the lease agreement carefully.

You should not hand over your passport as a guarantee against
returning a motor scooter or cycle. They can be held to ransom by
unscrupulous owners against claimed damage to the motor scooter or
    cycle.

I must have a motorcycle run in Thailand one of these days. I love
the Countdown timers they have at some of the light controlled
    junctions.
