    neither of them are Champ.

The only people I'm sure make more than me are Ant and Kenyon, though
I suspect a few others do too.

You think you have problems, most of my family are Maltese. There's only
two families on the island and my mum's side is both of them. My dad's
side is both of them too, with a bit of Irish and Scottish thrown in.

it could be worse, I could have an SO earning roughly what (I
    guesstimate) you earn too.

    Oh, wait...

to be honest, I'd prefer if she went into the private sector and
    started earning proper money[1]

    [1] she's a Prince2 Certified APMP-acredited programme manager with
working in IT knows more about IT than many of the soi-disant IT PMs I
    currently work along side.

I think I can beat that but its been a long day and I cant do the
    sums.

in 1989 I bought a 2 bed terrace in Manchester for £27K. a couple of
years later they were down to being advertised for 9K.

by the time we moved out in 2000 they were back up to about 15K.

I left it empty until house prices improved and sold it in 2003 for
    55K.

That makes me think I did ok, buying a place for 35K in '95, and PXing
it for 33K in 2001, after only paying £115 a month in mortgage (cheaper
    than renting)..

  14. As the group's sociopathic loony I clearly wouldn't be in that position
    ;-)
I'm sure I could do it for less than that if it really became necessary.
It's not planned to be like that. It's just how it is given my income vs
    my expenditure.
I thought 3 months was now the absolute minimum with 6 months being
preferred and 9 months giving a very comfortable financial cushion. I
agree with the last sentence - most people are not in that position at
    all.

  15. And that is the very clear risk - expensive foreign travel suddenly
becomes very attractive when you have the time.

  16. I've been waiting to see that particular headline for a while - assuming
you mean "k" rather than just simple pounds! Surprised it's as low as
    300K to be honest.
I assume your uk mortgage is all done and dusted now? I know you
probably won't come back now you're an American sponsored globetrotter
but having a bolt hole back home is worth having just in case you need a
    change.

    Paul Corfield, Feb 15, 2007
  17. Sure they are fantastic if you are able to exercise self control and
financial discipline and ensure you benefit from their advantages. Many
people can't if the headlines are only half true. I use a debit card
which covers the first two advantages in your list. I'm not hugely
bothered about the others with the possible exception of the insurance
    cover for certain purchases.
I suspect he has the advantage over me of having more of a clue of what
others earn. What he perceives as "not much" is all relative - for many
others it would seem to be a fortune but darsy has a good understanding
of his market value and earning potential.

I guess I place too much weight on his "lifestyle" remarks which create
an "aura" of an associated income level. I'm sure he does budget - he
    just never mentions it.

That dear old chap, SD tugged on his pipefull of old shag and said:
Nothing to do with the drop in prices - would anyone here buy a flat
underneath the snoring champion of the world - regardless of price.

I suspect the owners just took the first offer from the deafest veiwer.
