The first time I met one of Cheryls great-uncles (old Cornish fisherman
- now dead) I couldn't understand a word he was saying and I don't
usually have a problem with accents[1]. Mind you I suspect he was
putting it on special..

[1] After all - one of my managers was a Glaswegian mumbler and I
managed to understand him fine.

 

Probably - we didn't ask for too many valuations as it was to worrying
watching the value go into freefall. Especially as the mortgage was
taking up all of Cheryls wage and a proportion of mine at one point
(when the rate hit 15% - I seem to recall our first rate was around the
8% mark).

Dave's lot all come from Zummerset originally: they emigrated to Plymouth
before WW2. When we did a bit of digging, we discovered that for something
like 200 years, all the Hopkins in Isle Brewers had married the same family,
the Snoooks. It's all a bit hobbitish.

Nice. That was sort of my plan too before the accident.

Right now I've got a 3 bed (with real rooms, not broom closets.
It's a 6 bed if you could the broom closets) single on a 1/4 acre
lot overlooking the ocean in what is, apparently, one of the
nicest, warmest places in Canada. Which isn't really saying
much, I know. Unfortunately, it's in a crap town without a clue
in the armpit of Vancouver Island.

But hell, at least its paid for, and it's gone up 24% in value in
the last year alone. Bit of a house price boom here at the moment.
If they get a reliable (read: more than one fucking ferry)
fast-ferry commuter link to Vancouver from here, I expect prices
to double in under a year as the Vancouver folks snap up the
properties around here. If I could afford it I'd buy up
a few more properties before that happens, but ... oh well.

On the minus side, if I sold it I'd still not be able to
afford to buy anything in most of England. Prices here haven't
quite reached that level yet.

 

There was a blooper a few years back with a Norn Irn chap who was genuinely
utterly and totally incomprehensible. I'm trying to recall where he came
from.
