  3. Oh. Were you living in my road, then? I'd no idea.

OK, you got me, I just did the sums with a calculator, and it was actually
    a 55% drop.
Depends how much research you've done.

Prices are way high in places like Salcome and Dartmouth.

  8. Oh, I know - and the cost of living is far higher than The Other Place. It
would only be if for some reason we couldn't get to S****s. I don't mean
it's a poor second, I love Devon. Himself is a Plymouth lad. I'd just rather
    be elseplace.

  11. We bought in 1988 (2-bed semi) for £69K. When we sold it 7 years later
it got us £55K - and that was better than the agents had estimated. At
one point they were giving us estimates of around £40-£45K for the
    value.

So that's a 14K drop - under the 30% drop certainly (I make it about
21% but thats still an awful lot to lose on one of lifes major
    purchases..)

Mind you when we sold it we only had 50K outstanding on the mortgage
(good wages and some decent bonuses from work) so we had managed to
work off the negative equity but it isn't something I'm keen to do
    again.

  12. And only one bath in asses milk a month too. The sacrifices one has to
    make eh?

  13. Likewise. Which is why they kept putting up my credit limit (to silly
levels) and why they keep pushing their
    new-super-spiffing-look-at-all-these-benefits card at me[1] (which I
    keep ignoring).

    Phil.

[1] None of which are any use to me - club class lounge access? The
last time I flew anywhere was business class, for the company. And even
worse they charge for this card (current one is free) and it doesn't
    have cashback (current one does).

Of course, it's better weather, and easier to communicate with the locals.

  16. Did it go lower than that and then come back up, if you'll pardon the
    expression?
There's a mindset thing as well, I think. Yes, many here recall negative
equity all too well - but I think it's been lost sight of in the wider
    world.

  17. Ah yes. I've had one of those. Pay us 250 notes and we'll give you all these
    freebies you won't use.

  18. Nicely ambiguated. :)

My late FiL was almost incomprehensible, bless him. Not due to his really
rather lovely rich Plymouth accent, but the bugger talked at about 100 miles
an hour. I think it's a Plymouth thing.
