It's probably me but.....

Why since the new look at UKRM when I click on a thread I frequently
gat just a blank page. If I ask it to open the thread in a new window
or tab that sometimes works. Is it me or the new system, are there any
    fixes that numpties can use.

This new look has greatly spoiled my enjoyment of the group.

Thanks for any ideas, particularly those that help resolve the
    problem.

You appear to be using Google groups.
    It's crap, HTH.

  3. You're obviously talking about Google Groups. Yes the "update" is utter
shite and I've emailed and told them so. However I don't use GG to read
usenet - I use a programme that is designed to deal with usenet groups
    properly.
As the Ginger one has already suggested go and get a proper newsreader.
I use Agent but many other options exist - xananews [1] seems to be a
favourite and the developer frequents ukrm too.

he he I'm sure you're not alone in thinking google 'is' usenet. I'm
sure it was Googles' purchase of the Dejanews archive that helped make
them who they are today. As for the update, it does not seem to work
too well on the slow computers I have to use at work :( It's time to
get a proper news reader and pay up to Pipex for real usenet, before
google start charging ( you heard it here first !)

  5. Nothing to do with their search engines, then? Remember, very very few
people using the interwebthingy do newsgroups.

I use Google as well, and I've not had any problems.

However, I'd prefer to use a dedicated newsreader and I've downloaded
    Xananews which looks alright.

So, my question is - what's the name of the German server and do I
need an account there to make use of it?

Methinks he doth protest too much.

Look, have you got _any_ money in the bank? If the answer is yes, then
you have more money than me, therefore you have shitloads.

Oh facts, is it now? Eh? Facts? Where did we ever get to the stage
    where facts were needed? Eh?
My bank accounts are all currently (that's a bit of a banking joke,
    btw) at zero.

Oh and that car - it's for tarts and hairdressers. I bet it's yellow.

    I'm not a grandad.

Well, not as far as I know anyway.
You didn't deny it was for tarts and hairdressers though, did you?

I doubt I could ever convince myself to do that, the most I've ever been
in the red was about 70K, at a time when that was just a touch over 2 x
    salary.

I'd much rather be debt free with no luxuries.
