The French ones (mostly for alcohol and food) have a certain style.
Not all I guess. A really good ad should be timeless, or at least easily
revamped. Oxo managed it, or did they?

"Blow in her face and she'll follow you anywhere." Good job he had a
cigar or we wouldn't have known what to think.

Such a good advert you couldn't remember how to spell the name of the
    product.

    Three times.

and Fokke de Jong[1] is still trying to get away with it

Suit Supply founder Fokke de Jong has agreed to remove the posters but

What's wrong with that? I can't see it selling many suits, but offensive?

And why have they photoshopped someone elses face on the bloke?

Did you look at the other pics?
Actually, they didn't. Bruce refused to wear a tie for the photoshoot and
it is the collar & tie that is photoshopped on.

The first one I actually baulked at was the first black kid vs soap one.

In fact I think the *only* ones I really baulked at were the racist
ones. A lot of the rest were just unintentionally funny.

    Yeah, that was odd.
Product of their time. I still can't see what the issue is with the gun
    ads.

Oddly, the old racist ones are "of their time" and obviously from nearly
a century ago (except the Van Heusen) and are simply amusing with the
    relief of having moved on.

The "women know your limits" and "buy kitchen stuff" are unintentionally
funny with 21st C eyes - although the sexual politics (keep her in her
place) are a little bit depressing.

However, the *very* uncomfortable one is this, and my guess is it's
    1979/80:

They're odd to European eyes - guns for Christmas?

The Mattel toy gun ad is aggressive but would appeal to any small boy
(maybe not: "needs no caps" - what a swizz). However, as its obviously
60s with the backdrop of the Vietnam war sounds a jarring note.
