I've never worked anywhere with such a high proportion of ignorant,
inbread, lazy fuckers in my life.[1]

    Ideal customer base, then.

[1] Classic of the week has to be:
'Where's yer shitroll, and I don't want any of that posh crap'

    *sigh*

I've been past there - thought that was closer to Abergavenny and
    Monmouth than anywhere else?
Horrible, horrible shite. Wouldn't buy any processed stuff made by Sun
    Valley.
Heh..... I think it can't get much worse than here - especially market
day when they all come down from god-awful places like Tredegar and
    Beaufort.

Thank **** we bought a place in Ystrad Mynach rather than around here is
    all I can say.

Well, there *was* the 27 inch main one that failed on the A4 under ther
Clifton Suspension Bridge. That took out half the road and pushed the wall
    out into the river!

Cool film, very silly, very brainless, many big guns and loud bangs.

  14. Absolutely marvellous things, sprinklers. I urge anyone who might be the
slightest bit interested to google for the history of sprinklers and how
    effective they are.
For all they cost in a domestic situation (almost buggerall if you're
doing it yourself), they're well worth fitting at the build stage - I
intend to fit a few in my house.

heh, in a similar vein I just bought Biker Boyz to watch tonight. I
know it's shite but it's fun.

An it's got Gixxers in it.

I saw something on television a year or so ago about a sky scraper on
fire, beyond the reach of the fire brigade, without sprinklers. It was
going great guns, the fire climbing up the building from level to level.

Until it got to a floor where a firm who rented the entire floor had
fitted sprinklers. That one floor of sprinklers put the entire fire out.

IIRC that led to legislation to make sprinklers mandatory, in the US, in
    offices and new buildings.

    Ah. That's the one. Thanks.
I quite liked that film. Can't say I'd want to watch it again but it was
fun while it lasted. Oh, and it's got Sandra Buttock in it as well which
is always a good thing from where I'm sitting.

  20. When they were invented - late 19th C - warehouse/office building fires
were costing insurance companies millions in claims every year.
Sprinklers were so effective that fire premiums were lowered
substantially for buildings with them fitted.
It sort of surprises me (and yet it doesn't) that mandatory sprinklers
weren't in force already in the U.S.
