Ugh. That's were all the DHSS dosshouse^W"Hotels" are.
The overground train line I'm familiar with that goes to Finsbury Park
runs up through Ally Pally, Enfield Chase, Gordon Hill, Crews Hill and
(on another branch) Potters Bar, Hatfield and WGC.

All of those are near(ish) J23/J24 of the M25, so not that far from the
M1. I don't know about Crews Hill and Potters Bar, but the other two
definitely have both small carparks and on-street parking nearby. I'd
be surprised if Potters Bar station didn't have parking at/near it.

Crews Hill is a funny place - it's got a train station, but there's
nothing there except ~50 garden centres and a pub.

My personal recommendation would be for Enfield Chase or Gordon Hill,
as you're heading "in" the whole way, and both are good areas to park a
car. The latter also features a quasi-lurker just round the corner.

I'm in a very similar situation. If out for a few hours, I'll just
say **** it. If out for > 24 hours, I guess I'll lock it all up.

    No, never tried it.

Still, surely one of your means could have acquired a house with it's own,
    built-in, garage?

He lives in That London. His house was probably once someone else's garage.

oh, that's what you meant - it wasn't really clear.

Around where I live, the only houses that were in the price range I
could afford when I last bought, that have attached garages are
80s/90s-built 3-storey "town houses". I did look at a couple when we
were buying, but I don't really like the format, and they're not big
enough for my liking (3 bedroom, 1 reception is the standard).

There are some larger houses in the posh part of Bush Hill Park, which
I would like to be able to afford, that have attached garages, but the
cheapest is more than 1/2 a million quid, which I can't quite afford
yet. The house I'd really like sold recently for 1.2 million. I realise
this is in some people around here's price bracket, but mine would
stretch to about a 1/3 of that at best.

Though actually thinking about it, most of the big houses a couple of
streets away have non-attached double/triple-garages, admittedly in
    their own land/behind gates etc.

I could afford a suitably shaped and sized and garaged house by moving
to a crappier neighbourhood, but I'm not prepared to do that.

The area 1/2 mile either side of Green Lanes sucks pretty much from
Newington Green right up to Palmers Green.

I've had similar issues here, with my garage. The problem is compunded by
the fact that it's only rented. The worse case was when, depsite the 'No
parking' sign, access was blocked, and I had to go see a client. I spend
an entertaining few minutes cursing and wondering if I might squeeze the
bike through the gap they'd left. I noticed a group of people further down
the road had been watching me, so approached them with the 'DO you know
whose car this is' line. 'Oh yes, it's ours' I was slightly stunned.
They still didn't actually offer to move it until I asked them to.

Other than that I tend to leave notes under wipers, and actually got a
belate apology from one idiot in a BMW.

I *could* park a car in front of it, but having to move it every time I want
the bike out is a major PITA.

  14. Barnet. New Barnet to be precise. And when I was at school I had to
cycle up Cat Hill every day.

  15. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "CT"
    Trolley jack. Works wonders.

You could try either Cockfosters or Oakwood which are not far from the
M25 and have lots of parking spaces. Tubes are every few minutes and
last trains run through because the depot is between the above two
    stations.

    http://tube.tfl.gov.uk/content/carpark/default.asp and page down to
    Piccadilly Line.

There is also the N91 Night Bus which you can catch very near to
Finsbury Park (Seven Sisters Rd / Hornsey Road) which runs to the above
places if you end up being very late indeed.

Remove screws, replace with new cross head screws then drill out cross
heads so that they are unscrewable.

    K Olley says...
One way of doing it. I'd be inclined to see if the hinges could be
placed on the inside, using double hinges if necessary.

Alternatively, I'd use round topped security bolts through the
hinges, through the frame and through steel plate on the inside.
