Has anybody else been in this situation?......

You buy a new bike, everything is great, the bad things in life seem
un-important, you smile when you see your bike, you enjoy sitting at
the lights waiting for the green, you think that it doesn't get much
better than this, generally things are good.

Then later on, your insurance bill comes in the mail the same day that
you decide you need some new tires, and you need a full service.
Suddenly, you need a lot of money to keep this dream alive....

Then for some reason or another, you are without a bike. In my case, I
had one stolen, and in another case, I couldn't afford it at the time,
and had to sell it for the above reasons.

Then (without fail, each and every time) about 3 to 4 months later, you
sit there at work, and cannot stop thinking about anything other than
buying another bike. Even though you know that you probably can't
afford it, and the time will come again where you'll have to fork out
for tires, rego, insurance and servicing all in the same month or
something. But it doesn't deter you - you MUST have another bike.

So - it's happening to me again, and so I want people opinions on what
to get. I've previously ridden GSX-Rs/Fireblades/R1's, and I must say
that its going to be hard to stray away from this mob, but to be
honest, I'd like something I can sit on for more than 3 hours without
feeling like I've done 3 rounds with Mike Tyson. Let me know your
    thoughts.
    Cheers,
    G.

CT110... posties seem happy to sit on them all day.

    oh...and the insurance/tyres/service thing is a no-brainer.

They also have the same performance sitting at traffic lights as just about
    anything else out there.

Chick-pulling ability a bit limited, though fitting some pink tassles and a
basket over the handlebars should gain some attention.

Let us know what you get :)

Another useful response from a Pom bike owner. At least you pushed the
    right brand... :p

I'm told that the CBR600 makes a comfortable bike. Not quite your R1 but
should be much cheaper to maintain.

I know a guy who sits on his for up to 8 hours per day without feeling like
he's just had sex with Mike Tyson 3 times (though he'd probably want to).
He commutes all the way from Collaroy into the city and back every day -
roughly 4 hours each way. I believe he's even thinking of riding it to PI
(from Sydney) next year. He'll be heading off sometime next week.

So there you have it - comfy, reliable, cheap and not too bad looking. Now
I just have to find a 2-legged version that fits the same description. :)

    Cheers,

  6. Buy any one of the following: Freewind, Pegaso, Vstrom, Transalp,
Africa Twin, F650GS, DR650, XR650L. Enjoy life. You can have your
cake and eat it too though YMMV.

I based it on a friend I know with a Honda, pink panniers, tassles and a
    pink basket over the handlebars.

He's been known to frequent coffee shops ...he's a latte-boy... and other
    pink-tinged stuff eheh

Just don't buy a BMW, they are apparently top heavy and fall over a lot.

Hmmm.... a 'theme' of some kind seems to be emerging...

Naah - I'll put it down to the beers so far tonight. Back to the new thread
I'm starting - surely it will attract similar remarks...

Go buy another bike already, you don't need our permission and you know
    you want to.

(buy one you can afford to keep, maybe something older or less crash
/theft prone so your insurance bill doesn't kill you)

Well yes, indeed I did. She was and still is a very attractive lady.
Reliability wasn't a problem but boy oh boy... she could be expensive. I
    had to:

    - buy her a series of bikes - from memory: ZZR600 => ST2 (got stolen) => '03
    XX
    - take her on lots of golfing/fishing holidays
    - be her photographer on holidays all over the world (and pay for them)
    - etc.

Thank the good lord for that. I'm as ugly as sin.

    Cheers,
    Dave E ZZR600 => ST2 (stolen) => '03 XX
I've participated in some serious sin that wasn't that ugly... :)

  19. Funny, I've had 6 BMWs and you know what fell over most? My VTR1000, the
sidestand had a habit of sinking through soft bitumen.
