Next time, if you fancy a laugh, ask how much for business use as well......

    Previously on usenet, Ben said...
    **** that, if I want a bike I buy it. I couldn't give a **** how many
miles to a gallon it does, or how much it costs to insure. It's a toy, a
luxury if you like. It's meant to be expensive.,

    [of insurance]
Most times it's been no different to have class1[1] use, this year it
would have been ~£20 more so I didn't bother.

[1] AFAIK this is for travelling to different sites[2] and
specifically excludes, carrying paying passengers or packages.
[2] Normal SD&P + commuting is usually one fixed place of work.

I am that old codger who tried to work the same idea to get my 18YO son
    insured on a ped.
IME made no difference coz the insco always take the highest risk and price
    accordingly.

Aye. When I got quotes for the Triple, there was another (unless is this
what you call class 1) type. Insurance to allow me to travle to client's
sites for the purpose of work. Up GBP 200 extra per year

I was thinking about the OP, rather than you when I made that reply.
Your "no job = sell the bike; new job = buy a bike" policy seems
    similar to my own.
    exactly.

Buy 2 15year+ bikes for £50 quid each, insure them with a classic
policy, then add the bike you really want.

I use..ahem, 'classic' insurance for my SOB's, and get all 4 (all 15+
years old) covered TPF&T for £54.24 a year.
Recently I've been getting quotes for a new GSXR1000 from other
inscos, all over the grand mark.
However, speaking to my existing insurer, as long as I have more SOB's
than new sprotbikes, they would change the policy to fully
comprehensive, and add the gixer for a grand total of £212.44 per year
    all told.

  8. Yep, that's class 1 business AIUI, most times I not been asked for
more for that on a bike, until this year. In the past with a car it's
been much the same. In the dim'n'distant as an employee to go on a
work trip, EG travel to a course would require it.

Move from Croydon to somewhere with a garage in the middle of nowhere with
very low crime . This will save you the most money.

Otherwise, IAM training might knock 10% off some policies (if you pass)
though usually only the more expensive ones accept it.

  10. Thanks, I'll ask them again.
Such a phrase used to be on there, but they removed it and claimed that
that provision was still in force.
