Itom 50cc racing bike - help please

Discussion in 'Classic Motorbikes' started by tireless.orion, Oct 10, 2005.

  1. My father has, and has had since I was a young boy, an Itom 50cc racing
bike that was very occasionally brought out and started and driven
    around our road.

I went back to visit my parents this weekend and my dad has the bike
out in his garage and has started to do a little work on it (even
though it works fine and is in great condition). When we were boys we
were told the bike was raced in the IOM TT, but over the intervening
years pretty much all the details have been lost.

I promised my dad I'd try and find out a little about the bike, but
an afternoon on Google hasn't been all that helpful....here's the
    details I do know.

It looks almost exactly like this
    <http://www.cybermotorcycle.com/gallery/itom/Itom 1959 Corsa 50cc.htm>

The 'dropped' handlebars, frame and exhaust system are indentical to
the ones in the picture, so I'm pretty sure it's a Itom Corsa 50cc
from around 1959 but other than that I've drawn a blank.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find any more information
about the bike, or where I should look for chassis/engine numbers -
I'd like to help him find out a little about it if possible.
    - should it be with an enthusiast, a museum or is it of no interest
at all? Do they have a value?

Sorry for the lack of knowledge on my part, but if any one can help
and/or point me in the right direction I'd be really grateful.

    Thanks
    Neil
