Italian trackdays? Idea for a big Ducati fan?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Dave Jennings, Feb 9, 2005.

  1. Where else to ask but here?

My mate has ridden Ducatis for about 5 years now, and is into taking
long weekends into Europe ( from Glasgow, usually over via the Rosyth
    ferry to Zeebrugge ) .

For his 40th later this year, his loving wife ( who bought him his last
749 as a treat, the love ) would like to send him and some mates ( ahem
) off on something a bit different.

The ideal plan is to fly to wherever and pick up some bikes, or if
there's a track school nearby hire them for the time we're at the
track.Maybe a Ducati factory visit if they do such a thing.

So, no real plans or preferences, and we have no idea what's
    available/do-able etc.

    Any suggestions?

Apart, obv, from become his wife's sex-slave and get equal pressies for
    my badass self.

A-ha. *Exactly* the kind of thing. No mention of cost, unsurprisingly.
Still, might well be a giggle.

The factory tour is really interesting, and you can spend the
best part of an hour watching the guys and girls at work in
there. Then there's the museum above the factory which you'll
get guided round and then left in to browse at your leisure
and an improved gift shop too. Don't forget to checkout the
"staff" shop across the road from the factory - it only opened
this year and is packed full of bargains like Ducati leathers
for £200. Mind you, the 60 people I took over there for a tour
last month bought up most of the really cheap stuff!
It's not that expensive and comes out about the same as a
foreign trackday with all the shipping of the bike and your
own transport included. A friend of mine did it in 2003 and
really recommends it. If you're a club member I think you
get a discount, which could be worth the £25 joining fee
    just for that.

AFAIR, there is a Europe[1]-wide Ducati club that sometimes rents
Mugello. People send bikes in a truck and fly to Mugello for a track
    day.

Feel free to contact my e-mail (remove -antispam) and I can forward the
inquiry to a 999 owner who went to Mugello that way.

[1] That funny continent you may notice beyond the Channel.

Thanks. Somehow I think the preference is to fly over there and rent
bikes, but if taking the bikes is a possibility I'll mail you.
