On Sunday, while trying to get to my hotel in London and negotiating the
many inoperable tube lines, lugging a case and bag around, at the 4th
change in an hour I managed to leave my laptop bag on the train.

As I stood on the next one and that sinking feeling hit me when the doors
closed I just had to shrug and accept it.

It was Sunday, so could not report it, but tube worker was most helpful
assuring me they get handed in all the time.

At 21:30, my phone rang, someone had it and wanted to give it me back.
As he was in Acton and I was in Bow[1] and the tube was shafted he
volunteered to deliver it to me the next day in Canary Wharf.

Sure enough, he turned up, all was in the bag.

He refused to take his tube fare, and refused an offer of a reward.
He just shook my hand, said he was glad to help, and left.

    Sometimes, people are soo nice.

    [1] A shite hole.

Yep, a very nice gent picked up my wallet, stuffed with cash, at the
tube station and handed it in to the police station a couple of years
    back.

    Gobsmacked I was.

Hmm. I picked up a crackberry on the tube recently. Tried to stop the
owner, but got shut in the train.

Eventually got it back to him, to much thanks and a letter from his company.

A very un-nice gent [1] picked up my wallet, stuffed with cash, on a
street in Geneva [2] a couple of years back. In this case however it was
in my back pocket at the time he tried to "help" [3].

    Gobsmacked I was.

Those of you who have met me might find the fact that I then grabbed him
by the collar and demanded the return of my wallet and took it back from
his hand (and succeeded) almost unbelieveable. Still do myself.

[1] there were two of them actually, one trying to distract whilst the
    other performed the dirty deed
[2] a city where crime is so low that I have been told it would be
headline news if a bicycle were to be stolen
    [3] himself, obviously

Few things are quite as nice as the face you get when you hand back a set of
    car keys/wallet stuffed with cards/lappy.

Wrong. Compared with the rest of Switzerland it's a festering cesspit
    of Crime.

Bleeeks? or more likely English football supporters.

Talking of which, this is a most apposite time in English history. All those
whose miserable existence ruins life for the good people has erected a
TARGET in the window or on the wall of their cesspit of residence. It meets
the international standard, large white rectangle with red lines
    intersecting at the entry point.

Target the Maser Satellites, let the cull begin.

"Foreigners", certainly. So many international NGOs and the like, with
all their imported staff, a surprising number of whom are employed at
the lower end of the skills/salary spectrum.
What the hell have you been smoking?

Geneva: more bad-ass than St. Moritz.

    It's really not bad, actually.

You know, it is hard to resell a laptop here when it is filled with
clumsy OS's like OpenSolaris, and people can't be arsed to reformat
    disks.

    ;)

Well don't bother sharing it, will you. In the meantime I'll continue
to assume that Hog is simply off his head.
Maybe. But the World Cup isn't limited to Britain, you know.

Thankfully, I'll be sailing off the Turkish coast for most of it,
although I don't doubt that, even though apparently they're not in it,
every place we go that has a TV will be tuned into it.

Strangely, I did note that it had been booted twice, I assume while
looking for some ownership ID, and before they found my (experimental) CV
    with my mobile number on.

Every beat up POS Corsa and Astra has 2 flags fluttering from the door jams.
Every pikey house in the entire country has a large flag in the front window
or taped to the outside wall. George Cross hairstyles abound, matching the
shell suits. Painted faces. Even factory units have flags, one nearby in
    Leeds has 3.

    It's not even Rugby FFS.

And they are going to lose. Early on.

I'm going to get one of those clip on flag thingies and attach it to my
topbox with a Maltese flag on it.
