It wasn't a badly fitted tyre, after all...

.... it was the dreaded expanding swing-arm.

    http://www.salad.dodger.dsl.pipex.com/rusty.jpg

The brown bit, in the middle, is where rust behind the seam has pushed
    the seam towards the wheel.

All scraped out with a wire brush, Kurusted, hammered flat and
    Hammerited.

Now to see if it's solved the problem.

Don't forget to Waxoil the inside of the swing arm so it doesn't rust
any more than it has already.

Well, when iron comes into contact with water and oxygen a chemical
reaction can take place, whereby said metallic iron is converted into
a substance knowm as Iron Oxide. Also sometimes referred to as rust.

    There's a reason for that...

It where the outer skin of the swing-arm is folded around the drive
shaft. For some reason, Honda leave a 1cm wide gap, exposing two
seams. The lower one gets water in, and expands when it gets rusty.

I'm surprised you didn't know this, seeing as how you mentioned it in
your buyer's guide in bike a few months back. ;-)

Anyhoo, the tyre no longer rubs on the swinging arm, so I'm quite
    chuffed, really.

I also had the opportunity to change the final drive EP80, which I
    forgot on Saturday.

Looks like the rear shock boot wants fixing too.

Right, except that I don't think I did one on the Wing. I remember it
was a problem on the old CX.

    It's worse than that.

    I didn't even get a by-line.

160 mile shake-down run, via Coolham, Arundel and Waverley showed no
    problems.

Handles quite nicely with correct profile tyres, too.

Big thanks to Sussex plod for racing past me to block off the A272
just ahead, leading to a 10 mile detour to Coolham.
