But it was enough to fuck up the Bandit's fuelling. Flat spots, reluctant to start when warm, unwilling to rev when not warm enough, popping and banging on the overrun and worst of all, not picking up cleanly on an upchange, even on the redline. So I went shed diving and found the K&N oil, painstakingly cleaned and dried the (engine oil contaminated) filter and oiled it up ready to install. Off with the tank, out with the airbox cover ... and there it was - the 'ole. When tuning a B12, the standard fuelling can cope with either a can or a K&N. Go for both and it runs weak, so it needs StageI upjetting. Go to StageII and it needs more air too - so you cut a 35mm hole in the airbox, just across from the original. It had been so cut and I'd forgotten about it, so when the original jetted carbs were replaced by a standard set and a paper filter for the sake of a level playing field from which to start, the hole became surplus to requirements. It all came back to me when I saw it, so a couple of squares of tank tape blocked it off and a test run was undertaken. Woo, and I may add, HOO. That's more fucking like it - 5 minutes to get it warm and a WFO run through the gears saw the first wheel-waggling of the year in fine form. Much, much quicker with no flatties and plenty of pickup - the grunt has returned. Saves 150 quid for a dyno run too ;-)
