I tried a 1/4 of one of the 100mG morphine tabs I have here, they must be 6
years old now. Did **** all. So I tried 1/2. Ditto. A whole one. Nothing.

Last ditch attempt I tried some oramorph I found, still nothing.

Doesn't last long in storage does it?

 

It's not something I know anything about, TBH, although if it does 'go
off' I'm quite surprised. And 100mg really should be noticeable. Just
checked the boxes I've got, which are of 10mg tabs[1] - they were
dispensed in late 2006, and they have a 'use by' date of Oct 2010.

Of course, actual formulations vary; this is 'MST continuous' which
apparently gives an equivalence of 75% with simple morphine, i.e. the
10mg tabs are equal to 7.5mg, but last for 12 hours. So if there is
any degradation it's quite possibly different for this formula.

TBH though, I've not used any for about two years, so I've no idea
what effect it would have now.


[1] When I came out of hospital I was prescribed 70mg, 3 time daily,
but I knew I didn't really need that and would reduce the dose quite
quickly, so I got them to give me smaller tablets to allow for this.

 

I seem to remember there being some silly rule in the yuk, that a chemist
won't seel you enough pills to kill yourself, without prescription. Is
this still true? Was it ever?

At my local chemist, if I ask for brufen, they give me 600mg tabs by
default. I thought this was a bit over the top for a dull ache, so I had
to order in some 200mg. A couple of years ago I had the flu, and they
gave me paracetamol 1000mg pills. Bloody big.

Well no, not strictly. OTC pack sizes are generally limited in size,
and anything sold outside a Pharmacy very much so.

But if you ask for large amounts in a pharmacy, always assuming they
have an appropriate pack size, the assistant will need to check with
the pharmacist, who will interrogate you as to how and why you're
using them - if satisfied they will still let you have them.

I used to get this even just buying more than 100 ibuprofen at a time
in Boots in the UK. Couldn't seem to get the 100 packs over here, and
bubble-backs are _so_ much more expensive. Nowadays, of course, I just
pick up a bottle or two of 750/1000 each time I'm in the US. $15-20 a
go in any supermarket - bargain.

Not that they'd kill you anyway, of course, unless you took enough to
burn a hole in your stomach ;-}

 

Yes, at least for paracetamol it's sold in packs of 16 of which two I
think, are the maximum you can purchase at anyone time if there's no
pharmacist present.

Not sure if the same restrictions actually apply to ibuprofen and
asprin. In supermarkets they're in the same size pack I suspect so as
to not confuse the staff.

I've bought much larger quantities from a proper pharmacy AKA the
chemist. I was asked why I wanted so many, explained I was holidaying
on a boat with no access to land for a week and got 200 of each.

 

Yep sorry, I forgot the rule was brought in for non-chemist sales
(supermarkets etc).

 

MARKO sell large trade pack trays of them in the smaller sizes.

 

Which is odd - lethal dosage of paracetamol is between 10g to 12g
(depending on various factors like weight and general health). And
32x500mg[1] is 16g..
