We're (mostly) crossing on Friday to avoid doing home -> channel ->
Alsace in one day which would be a bit shit.

I think everyone is going on a Friday and heading to Laon, gearboxes
    permitting

    Pah. Lightweights.

That said, I'm not planning to arrive in Orthez until Sunday teatime.

Sunday? Pah. We'll be in Italy by Sunday and if current route plans are
anything to go by we'll be doing it via some twisties in Azerbaijan.

As routes go, I've never seen such a suboptimal ratio between crow
flight and distance travelled. Bring it on!

as a subset of UKRM, they are. Positively emaciated compared to say a
TOGTour. Of course, I'm keeping the standards up and I believe ginge has
had to invest in larger apparel.

Indeed. HG's finest[1] loose fitting bike trews and jacket.

[1] Well not their finest, as I went for the shelltex version: Devon
III Jacket and Devon II trousers. Nice kit all the same.

I'd be interested to see how that gets on, in the rain, as it is a lot
cheaper than the suits Col & Pat recommend. I'll be commuting to Cardiff
next month and they seem to have roadworks everywhere at the moment, so the
bike is going to get used.

If you could conduct the tests when I'm not riding the same route it would
    be appreciated.

Eh? I didn't touch hardly anything in France. I got mullered at the BOSM,
but **** me, hardly anything you or anyone else hasn't done is it.

A few people have reviewed the Devon kit online and it seems to get
favourable results. I guess it shouldn't be too bad because Shelltex
is just an older version of goretex that is licenced to HG, and has a
2 yr warranty instead of 5. I also got the matching shelltex gloves,
which I really hope work, as I hate soggy hands.

Given I don't commute on the bike much I reckon it should be perfect
    for my needs.
I'll try and defer this until later in the year.

Well, it's all a bit schoolyard really isn't it? But I couldn't have gone &

That's pretty much my take on it, yes. I mean, there are far subtler
ways of preventing somebody going on a trip.

Never mind, you can come on our next big adventure if you want to.

I'm not going to say where it's going to be but all you need to do is
say you're up for it, guarantee not to drop out and you're in. You
won't need a sidecar but you will need several phrase books and about
    10 days away from home.

Nope. By now everyone should know the script when it comes to our
winter jaunts in that it'll be cold, we'll be camping several nights
and it'll be something to remember when you're too old to ride bikes.

I don't think there's anyone here that'd want to go that isn't on CLII
so there's no need to try recruiting.
