    switched off the ignition, retarded it, then switched the ignition on
    again.

    *BANG!*

    Dog scarpered, but we did about fifty miles with a *VERY* fruity
    sounding exhaust.

    On inspection, it had taken and rolled-up a quarter-inch strip of the
    silencer as if it had been opened with a key, like a corned beef tin.

    He never did that again, much to our disappointment.
