It lives again and a testimonial

An enjoyable ride today with the lad on the back of the Voxan though
nearly marred by a speed camera in a NSL 60 zone. Fortunately I spotted
the top of the camera van in time. So while the lad was at the climbing
wall for a couple of hours I decided to fit the repaired stator to
GFR#2.

The job proceeded well except for some pingfuckit foolery with one of
the stator securing screws. Being only a 125 these are rather small and
fiddly and I didn't have a magnetised screwdriver of the right size
handy. Next time I'll remember to put a bit of gaffer tape over the cup
housing the starter motor gear which is located just in the right
position to catch an errant screw. If it had come to it I could have
unbolted the motor and retrieved it by gravity. A magnet didn't do the
trick, but a bit of fishing with a length of cunningly bent lock-wire
got it within grasping range of needle nosed pliers and also extricated
the washer. Gratifyingly, once everything was screwed back together the
bike started first prod, so a 100% accurate diagnosis of the problem.

Anyway, West Country Windings rewound the ignition winding of the stator
for 65 quid. Posted the stator to them on Monday, returned rewound on
Friday - recommended.
