It hurt a lot but it felt good.

    heh

I can relate to this. I had to put up with my ex at #1 daughter's
wedding. Lucky, she didn't talk much.

I don't have kids by mine. My daughter also refused to meet her in all
    the years we were together.

It takes that long to see a GP.

No it doesn't. I can ring my GP on Monday morning and be guaranteed to
    see a doctor that day.

I realise you were joking, but inaccurate sniping at the NHS only feeds
the "Just privatise it and be done" brigade.

Seven days here, at both the surgeries I've used in the last ten years
or so. I suspect it may be marginally quicker if you have a heart
attack, but given the totally incorrect diagnosis SO received after her
recent stair tumble, I'd strongly advise against having anything more
serious than a cold in Swindon's A&E catchment area.

I called my GP two weeks ago for an appointment and was given the 1st of
    August. I am not kidding.

Apart from the longish wait for an MRI scan[1] I've been very pleased
with the service I've had from our local NHS Trust.

[1] Due to the scanner room being rebuilt, the only useable scanner
sits in a converted artic trailer in the hospital grounds. It's not
ideal but at least they have one and it works.

    Whaaat??

I can walk into an open surgery any day of the week at my GP's anytime
between 8.00am and 9.30am and be seen before 10.30.

This is true. Even in the hideously under-rescourced[1] part of England
we call London I can get an appointment next day.

I've got no grumbles about the NHS whatsoever. Even when I had raging
toothache and wasn't registered with any dentists I got in next day.

  17. Now I'm not sure...

But I did wish to imply that I inferred that your medical procedure
was preparatory to a currently popular surgical operation.

IIRC, this is because of a recent policy change. Targets mean that
doctors are aiming to see patients within 48 hours of an appointment
being requested. Their solution? To only schedule appointments up to
48 hours in advance, so you can't book one further ahead.

It's popped up on QT a few times, once notably when yonty was in the
    hot seat.

Well, tbh, that suits me fine, the only time I ever need to see a doctor
or a dentist is within 48hrs. I mean, if I need to call one it's pretty
    damn urgent.
