Bollocks! I've listened to R4 longwave from Carcassone using a standard
car radio. Once you get much south of Tours you can't listen to LW when
moving though 'cos of interference from powerlines etc.

I've had more success/experience with LW; they transmit 500kW from
    Droitwich with good effect.

    I like France, in general.

However my experience of Paris has not been pleasant. I hate having to
go to Paris and I hate driving through Paris. It seems to be dirty,
unpleasant and populated with the rudest most arrogant fuckers it's been
my mispleasure to have to commune with. The waiters are rude. The
hotel receptions are rude. My poor attempts at a number of European
languages are normally tolerated or appreciated, in Paris it seems to be
a major point scoring opportunity to put a brit down for failing to
speak French well enough. Still, **** 'em I'd rather go to Nice any day
    of the week.

Fortunately I don't have to go to Paris very often.

Yeah I know it's bollocks. I just posted it to annoy Des. Which is
silly really, as I've seen the light and killfiled the tedious ****, so
I won't even see his response.

France is changing lots. To be fair, I don't come across that problem
    too much.

It's cleaner, litterwise, than London, IMO, but dogshit-wise, jeez,
that's a problem. So much so, that they have 'moto-crots' (sp?) which
are either mopeds or 125's with a hoover on the back to suck up dog
turds into a big **** off container on the back (like the portaloos
that dispatchers use in London). I'd hate to crash into one of them!

Some people are arrogant and possibly more so than in the UK, but
that's the Latin mentality for you. Anglosaxon cultures seem to be
more bound by rules and so politeness (like driving, courtesy, etc) is
    more of an issue.

But you're right. It's nicer outside of Paris. I suppose the 'city
mentality' doesn't help really. People in Paris (like London) are too
stressed in general. Even the French accept that there are the
Parisians and there are the French [1].

[1] See a complete twat of a driver on the roads outside of Paris and
    you've got a good chance of seeing a Paris/Suburb number plate. :)

Maybe it's cleaner than London, TBH I've only been to Paris about three
times this year IIRC and I've probably not been to London more than once
    so I can't really make a comparison...
I wouldn't say the same things about, for example, Madrid or Rome. I
don't think that "Latin mentality is an excuse" holds true. I can
accept the Anglosaxon culture being more rule and politeness driven
    though.
I agree about the city mentality bit; I think this is the key. I don't
buy the "too stressed" bit though.
Hmm... IME of France, which is less than yours but more than most, I'd
say it's a French numberplate. They're absolutely fucking unhinged on
the motorways with shocking manners, no road sense and drive *far too
close*. I want a big fucking car with a reinforced body so the next
time some **** drives towards the rear of my car *WHEN I'M OVERTAKING
SOMETHING* I can brake hard and watch the stupid twat hit the rear of my
car... GRRR. Mind you, if it's being driven *really* dangerously at
    some hideous speed it's Belgian.

I'll tell you when I get over to London next week :)
When I speak with people over here about it, it's the general
impression I get. TBH, I can see where they're coming from.
Hah! See how they bloody drive over in Paris. That'll explain it! :)
I think that's something that's happening everywhere. Whilst over in
the UK for Xmas, I saw bad driving on the motorways, that was akin to
French motorway driving for example, It's not going to get any better
with every increasing traffic on the roads.

That's the exception then, the lack of distance on French Motorways is,
IME not reflected in the UK

Hardly a reason to try a re-inforce the ytc, the fact that a large number
appear to listen to R4 is a revelation to me. I still suspect it is not a
    majority though.

I'd imagine it'd would be a sizeable proportion compared against the
    other stations.

Myself, I only listen to Radio 4 and 3.

I'll also walk out of a shop playing local radio phone ins.
