When I lived in Germany (mid 60s), I had a 1952 VW Bug. It had a later
model engine with a Judson supercharger. I was hotfooting down the
autobahn with a Porsche on my 6 trying to figure out why he was having a
time of it passing me. The clock had gone round and was pushing past 0
again when the gen light came on. I pulled off to have a look and saw
the armature wires had come unsoldered and had fanned out from the
commutator ring.

 

Heh, someday I'll have to tell you about our ex-co-ordinator...
