Just had a rather strange phone message on my answer phone. A lady called Nicky Fisher had called from Jackpot Promotions saying that I had won one of the top prizes in a competition. Now I did not do it, but Angie reckons that she has done in the past. The prizes are a 42" TV, 6000 quid cash, a trip to the Bahamas or a top prize of a VW Beetle. She left an extention to call back on but no phone number. I cant help but feel its a scam, but does anyione have any experiance of this? -- Gavsta. GSXR600K1 Z750 Race Bike. [gets out 22-carat, diamond-studded crap-cutters] If it sounds too good to be true, it is. The precise nature of the scam may vary - premium phone-line, money up front to register, who cares - but it'll be a scam. Walk away. In fact, in this case it's fairly clear that you are supposed to return the call without bothering to check that it's an 09 number. Thus your call will cost you £££/min. If you can be bothered, you can report this to the regulator 'cos it's illegal. I think the phone regulator is ICSTIS.
And lots of others, mostly worthless, which she forgot to mention. Have you seen the adverts featuring "You've won the Highpoint global lottery, here in Holland" - "processing fee is 600 euros, but that's not a lot considering you're walking away with thousands" ? Sounds like somebody's decided to give it a go for real. Or it could just be a variation of the much more common premium rate phone number scam.
