    I need some suggestions here.
Not ridden the zephyr 550 for a month or so, due to it needing a new oil
seal, and me being lazy, and not getting it done.
Anyway, Saturday arrived and i went and picked up the new seal from my local
    bike place.
took a couple of hours to fit, and all seems fine.
Sunday I ride to the petrol station to fill up and give the bike a run.
I noticed that the bike was a little smokey (white smoke), and smelt heavily
    of petrol.
I put £14 worth of petrol in, and set off for a good run.
The white smoke was still there. when i pulled up, there was petrol dripping
    from the exhaust!
    anyway the outcome is.....
The bike did 32 miles on £14 worth of petrol.
    carb problem?

I would seriously have someone check the vacuum-operated fuel tap for a
split diaphragm and also all of the carb overflow pipes for fuel pissing
out. There's *no way* you could burn £14 worth of fuel in 32M even. You say
gave it a "good run". How did the bike feel? If it were overfuelling as
seriously as you state, it would have ridden like a dog, if it had run at
all. What seal did you change by the way?

Bike felt OK, if a little lumpy!
did not want to travel above 80 mph though.and the smoke really was
    horrendously bad.
The seal i replaced was the one that sits behind the front sprocket (that
    seems fine now).
