Is there such a thing as a reliable race schedule ?

  1. I recently saw a poster at the local Ford dealer advertising
the 2003 Oak Ridge Mile to be held on August 2nd near
Lovingston, Virginia. "Springer's Farewell Tour", it said.

Jesus Christ, I thought to myself, is Springsteen *still*
    racing?

After trying unsuccessfully to calculate how many years it's
been since I first watched him duel it out with the likes of
Fast Freddie Spencer and (dare we mention his name out loud?)
Kenny Roberts, I immediately decided I'd have to go see this.

Cost was not an issue. I was going, period.

To make what turned out to be an excruciatingly long story
short, there is no friggin' race. I have no idea why there
    isn't, there just isn't.

In the course of discovering this, I also learned that this
seems to be typical. The web is littered with information
about races which were held in 1997, which have long since
been canceled, or which are otherwise suspect for some reason.
Even the AMA website seems no better than any of the others.

Well, I figured, "screw this shit", and I drove down to see
the local Harley dealer. This dealer is *good*. I mean
really, seriously good. (Waynesboro, VA, btw). They would
know where I could go see a mile or a half-mile or something
like that. Anything. By now I needed a fix. If anyone would
    know, they would.

    They didn't.

The very nice young lady behind the counter tried her best to
help me (talk about nice titties!). Nor did the "expert"
person she buzzed on the intercom.

It seems this is a problem. It looks to me like, these days,
events are scheduled and then canceled almost at random.

There is, for example, a question about a race up in
Hagerstown, Maryland on August 9th. Is it being held, or is
it not being held? No one seems to know for sure.

This is bullshit. When I was last into going to races, this
did NOT happen. The San Jose Mile was close to being a
religious event. You would no more cancel that than you'd
cancel the Second Coming. It would never happen.

So, what's the deal? I don't understand this. I'd like to
find a calendar of races that haven't already taken place or
that aren't either already canceled or that are soon going to
be canceled, but I can't seem to find one.

    Thanks!

    Harry ;)
