    No soup for you! >:-|

Hey, I just watched "The Einsten Factor" on ABC - I think I'll
nominate as a contestant for the next series, with a special subject
    of "The Kawasaki GPX250 motorcycle".

My backup special subject will be "The design, construction and
maintenance of the Hoover Electra-Economiser dual spin front-loading
    washing machine".

There's a town in Tasmania which could adopt you as its mascot, BTH.

    It's Spreyton. (up near Deviot).

There's nowhere in Tasmania that isn't near everywhere else, you small-town
    person :)

  13. Nup - everything is relative.

    Tassie is "near" Australia.

In a state that is 300km from one side to the other, 1/3 of that
    distance is not "near" another.

Ballarat is near Bendigo relative to the size of Australia. Deviot
under damn near anything I can think of is not near Spreyton. If it
is, then everything in Tas is near everything else in Tasmania. Bloody
silly to describe it like that. Like saying that Engadine is near
Hornsby. In the reference frame you are using it is silly.

    Cheers

    (Yeah - literal week)

Jeez - a throwaway remark linking "Spreyton" and "Deviot" to BTH has become
an interstate point of disagreement and (perhaps) acrimony.

    Excellent.

And Kev says Hammo is silly. Excellenter. (Must click the bit that makes
the spectacles light up and turns the print red).

  16. Nah, you have lived in Tassie TOO long!

Its only silly if its not YOUR point of view.

Who went to a certain poster's birthday that was nearby. Only 1900 km or so
worth of travelling for the weekend. That was close-by, as in do-able.

Yes, Global village and all that....

  18. Yep - don't have a problem travelling long distance, never have. I
just think you have to describe "close to" in the context of where you
are. Otherwise Paris is near Perth ...

On a small island like this, 1/3 of the length of the island is not
"close to". YMMV but you don't live here.

    Cheers

  19. Yes, and that is what it is all about. YOU NEED TO GET OUT MORE!

    Sorry, did I wake you?

    Hammo

Pitch it in a way that doesn't make you sound like a cardigan wearing SAAB
driver and I'll come to the party.....
