Is it just me or are things financial now looking very shaky[1]
    indeed?

[1]Rather than the ropey-looking conditions of the past year or so.

Come now, Merrill Lynch getting bought out by Bank of America? Pah.

Lehman Brothers filing for bankrupcy? *boring*

Now, if something serious happened, say if AIG was to go under, then
    we'd be in the shit.

    oh....

Does this mean that all those pseudo intellectuals who make money by
diddling around with nothing other than money are going to fall by the
wayside and become street beggars, while at the same time anyone who can
thread a needle and sew a pair of pants will become overnight millionaires.
Sort of a "dot make" boom?

Anyone got a telescope trained in the upper floors of Canary Wharf?
Might see a few jumpers later...

    Jumpers for goalposts.

Luckily I got my redundancy cheque before it bounced.

I think I need to speed up my job search though, rather than sitting
around on my arse .. ;)

everyone's surprisingly calm here - just a bit more than the usual
amount of gallic shoulder-shrugging. Of course, if AIG were to go
under it wouldn't exactly be terrible news for us.

It's too late to get the best from buying gold.
A year ago it was nearly half the price it is now.
The price is still high, it might go higher for a bit but
    don't bank (!) on it.

    As ever.
On R4 this weekend was a programme about the re-building of
    Windsor Castle.
Mention of the craftsmen involved was minimal, compared to
what I think it should have been.

It's the one thing I really struggle with when it comes to DIY. So on
the basis that practice makes perfect, I'm going to attempt to make
some hardwood dg windows. I need 16 for this place, so I figure I
should just about have it sussed by the time I get to the last one.

  17. Aye, the usual is 'built by Sir Sometwat in 1594'.

What about all the cunts who actually built it.
