Always move to avoid running over them but is it safe, as in has anyone run
over a rabbit* , pheasant *, cat, dog and when does the size matter. Just
I'd like to live and it to die.

    * 2 or 3 times a day for me

I've hit a rabbit on my bike. The little fucker bled everywhere.

Aim for the fuckers, they normally move.

I ran over a rabbit last summer.

I saw it run out into the road, but didn't really have a hope of
avoiding it and went over it with both wheels.

It was a bit unpleasant, and I hope it died quickly.

I think it was a medium sized rabbit. Appart form a small bump, it
    didn't bother the bike much.

I nearly hit a deer at the same speed on my Bandit and at about 50 on
the CG, and a fox at 120 on the Bandit. Those were the most memorable
    moments for me.

I once had a chicken run through my front wheel.

Chicken went in one side, blood and feathers came out the other. And what a
mess that made of me and the bike.

Well I hate to put a downer on this, however a friend put the front wheel
of his GSXR750 over a previously squidged hedgehog and binned it big time,
scartch one bike and one ankle. Probably best to avoid small animals if
    possible.

Perhaps it's best to avoid running them over whilst leant right over...

I had a spate of bird strikes in the 70s, one (A sparrow) was a passenger
on the front brake stay for about 40 miles, the last smacked me right in
the face at maybe 100mph and despite a full face lid lid caused a huge
nose bleed and watering eyes, it felt like I had been hit by a sledge
    hammer.

Yeah, but fair's fair, it was an RG500. I don't know of a single owner
of said model of motorcycle who didn't terminally bin it.
Whether it was the motorcycle or the owner at fault[1] I know not. But
    there aint many RG500s left.

<waits for the exceptions to roll in>

    being largely responsible.

  12. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Muck amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom:
I hit a deer at about 60mph in a Talbot Solara. The deer scarpered and I
sustained no damage; didn't half make a bang :)

My bro had a deer run into his car, he was stopped at the time. The deer
just got a little confused by the headlights I guess.

Oh I see, he doesn't want to drop fag-ends in case they harm the
environment, but he's quite happy to go around kicking the shit out of
    poor ickle pigeons? Sheesh.

Upright, staring at the bright light, then get them right between the
    eyes.

If you can clip them wiht your boot, you can go back and collect them
    for your dinner.

Understandable I suppose if he was on the Tig. Verdi + Tig does equal a
    rather large frontal area ;-)

I had a funny one last year - I think you were on your sabbatical at
the time. A Kestrel or something similar took off from the verge ahead
& dropped something that slammed into my visor. I instinctively shut my
eyes as it hit, then opened them to see a mouse staring back at me. The
wind pressure kept it stuck there for a couple of seconds then it slid
off over the top of my helmet. Luckily it stayed more or less in one
    piece.

I once clipped a west highland terrier, who was attacking my bike, with
my left toes, at about 30mph, it hurt a lot as my foot was on the peg at
the time and bent more than it should have, apparently the dogs head
went under the back wheel although I didn't feel it. The dog suffered a
broken jaw and distraught owner while I limped around in pain for a
    couple of days.

I hit a Great Dane in a Mazda years ago, the dog got up and legged it but
I'm sure it sustained injuries due to the fact it wrote the front of the car
off and actually shifted the engine off it's mountings.
