  2. I remember being pissed off with Howard when he was doing it,
but can't remember why at the minute.
    heh.

I think you are being far too kind to the man. He has lost it, assuming
he ever had it in the first place. His latest public statement about
wanting to /nail/ some scrote is totally inappropriate for a home
secretary but no **** in parliament has the balls to come out in public
and say so, so the madman remains.

  5. I think it was Have I Got News For You... He appeared as a guest,
and had a corker of a black eye. Apparently his dog had the day
off, and he "walked into something". Micheal Howard's fist.

    (Of Blunkett)
Hardly. Blunkett's one of the few people who manage to make Howard look
    relatively sane.

I can say with certainty that as long as Blunkett's in the government I
    will never vote Labour again.

Which was interesting considering the evidence was rather circumstantional,
    to be generous.

The Times earlier in the week was commenting on him being a different kind
    of hooligan :)

He seems to want the CC to resign as he is supposed to be resposible for
his force, however as Home Secretary Blunkett is reponsible for the
Police as a whole and so surely he should also resign? It seems the buck
doesn't travel that far with this government. I read in one of the
newspapers that the present CC in Humberside wasn't even in post at the
    time.

Quite the opposite, this is a classic formula for revolution. Raise
expectations of the non-ruling classes, fail to fulfill those
expectations and you'll see the result as revolution.

Where all hope is taken away and replaced with cruel repression you don't
see revolution but if hopes are raised the opposite happens. cf.
Stalin's Soviet Union, Gorbachev's Soviet Union.

Although the First World War is often cited as the reason for the Russian
Revolution its seeds were sown in previous generations of Russia's
autocracy. Alexander II's (mid 19th C) modernisation of Imperial Russia
and reforms (emancipation of the peasants) and the subsequent failure to
    fulfill expectations unleashed dissent.

There was no going back even after his assassination and Alexander III
"security measures" the liberal intelligensias had given their tacit
support to the social revolutionaries and the rest, as they say, is
    history.

Indeed. Abstention may be the answer (although I will attend and spoil
my vote). I just *can't* vote for any government that will permit that
man to remain in a position of power.

I detest Blunkett, more than any other British politician. If I were ever
to relax my stance on celebrating a death, it would be for his.

I do wish you kiddies would fucking learn at least the teeniest weeniest

parliament and does that sort of thing on your behalf.

When you live in a safe opposition seat, you don't even really do that.

Nonetheless, my vote lends a tiny amount of legitimacy to the
government. And they're not getting it while that ****'s in office.

I live in the second or third safest Tory seat in the entire country,
all the opposition votes put together couldn't change that little fact.
It doesn't stop me casting my vote against them though as especially if
I don't vote for the mainstream local opposition there are plenty of
loonies to choose from where a few votes here and there can greatly
    influence the figures.
