  2. Sometimes :) It helps that my boss at Windriver was gay and I can see
some of his mannerisms in others who I know to be gay.
People are people and therefore complex - and guess what? Gay people
have as much variation as any other group of people you care to name.

So outside of the earring code (and that varies from place to place -
where I grew up it was known that a single earring in the left ear
meant that the person was gay and available) there is no easy way. Just
like every other pidgeonholing method that people have come up with.

  3. Likewise. Mind you - some of them ended up as big positives (we didn't
have a TV till I was about 14/15 so I learnt to love reading instead..)

And even worse I had no sisters - just 3 older brothers. So it wasn't
really until I left to go to colleage that I interacted with women
    much.

All the 'social' skills I have have had to be learnt. I was a loner at
school and a loner at home. It wasn't until I was about 16 that I
started to realise I had two choices - I could chose to model myself
after someone people liked and got on with (oldest brother) or model
myself on someone people didn't like (next brother). Fortunately I made
the right choice :) (quiet at the back!).
