Come on, doing one day of 1000 is one thing. Doing 11 in a row is going to
    be pretty grim.

No chance, steady 95 stopping every 140 miles (but for no more than 15-
    20 mins).
They're yanks and deserve to suffer.

Grim, sure, but not exactly difficult, it's just about the ability to
sit there riding for 12-13 hours a day.

Although if their ride is anything like as comfy as the one I had over
the weekend; a zillion miles in straight line is more likely to make
your eyelids sire from the matchsticks than anything else.

I've done 1600 in a day (which was tiring). I've also done 1000 more
than a few times, but have never had cause to do more than 300 the
following day. I don't percieve repeating 1000 a day as a huge problem
though, so that's most of the battle won.

I suspect your perception would change after the third day or so

That would be more to do with the mind and arse numbing drugs which I

I've done a bit of this sort of thing, as you know, and I don't agree.

  14. I agree. A dispatcher will be on the bike all day as will a DAS
instructor. The actual milage doesn't add a whole load of difficulty.

Not pleasent but we'd all be able to do it.

You don't know what you're talking about.

I used to drive for a job. It's hard to do serious distances every
    day.

I know it's something I'd be capable of doing, and it wouldn't be all
that difficult so long as I approached it with the right attitude.
    Good for you.

I used to do 400 miles a day, on top of 9 hours work, I'm well aware
what it takes to carry on traveling when fatigue sets in, I still
believe it's something I could manage without significant issues.

Going long distances does not require any special or unique skill, just
the right attitude, and a willingness to carry on when most people would
    stop.

  19. Here's another one for the more sensitively arsed...

    http://www.3flagsclassic.org/pr.htm

2600miles over 5 days. Istr hearing somewhere that when it first
re-started, it was an out and out race, with some bikes having auxiliary
pannier tanks and fuel transfer pumps. Looks like the organisers might
have toned it down a bit.

  20. True. You can do it for a day or two, but quite apart from the sheer
arse-numbingness (and real pain) of sitting in the saddle, the total
fatigue load would really pile up. If those fuckers are doing it for 11
    days, I'm quite impressed.

I reckon I could have had a serious shot at that about 10 years ago,
when I was used to high mileages, but I've never done 11kMiles over 11
    days.
