Courtesy of the 11 plus exam.

If I'd actually wanted to be a stuck up **** of the highest order I'd
have been shunted into the Bedford school because the 'chosen ones'
system where a certain persons job and friends in high places would
have made the entrance exam significantly easier to pass.

The careers officer was a riot when I had my interview at 16 and was
asked which A levels I planned to take. I pointed out that unless
schools were suddenly going to start handing out motorbikes as
freebies I'd be leaving at 16 and getting a job.

I was one of the first year in Bedford not to take the 11 plus. I've no
doubt at all that I'd have passed as both my elder sisters did and I'm
brighter than both of them. I just can't imagine what hell it must have
been going to BMS or BS. They did games on Saturday mornings ffs. At
least my kids are saved from that, laddo goes to Rushmoor and the girls
    to BHS.

  7. I should fucking hope so, else half the cunts around here wouldn't have
    got an education.

    Oh, <waves>, btw.

Doesn't surprise me at all. Obviously their parents value education and
I see the results at work - a lot of people they snatch from uni are
    either Chinese or Asian.

You would think you woud be bright enough to use a newsreader that can
automatically attach a different sig depending on which group you are

At my second secondary school[1] we had three asian kids, and a
African kid[2]. Out of 1800 boys. I remember their names, too.

Rugby matches in SE London were like a voyage into the unknown for us.

[1] Post Gillingham Grammar/Rainham SM merger into the Howard, in Sep
    '75.d School

[2] Though we did have a boy of Greek/German parentage and another
with Dutch antecedents in our year. Pretty cosmopolitan, heh?

I'm impressed that you went to school with members of the royal
family. Were they really as thick as they appear on tv?

Heh. As it 'appens, said lad went Cambridge, then U of Texas at
Austin, and is now lecturing at Oxford. Peter T knows him.

I nearly bought his 400 Four in 1981.

When I went to school, we had 5 asian kids, 1 chinese, and 2 black, in a
    class of 27, I think.

I learnt some choice swearing in Urdu, but have since forgotten it all.
