So I'm looking for a new car stereo to go with a new car. It would make
sense to have integrated iPod control. Must have steering wheel remote,
but I've heard some horror stories regarding control interfaces.

Anyone use one and have recommendations?

    TIA

I had a Kenwood head unit in my last car and used their iPod
    interface...

    http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/products/car/accessories/KCA-iP500/

It allows full control over the iPod from the headunit controls so you
can just leave the iPod in your glovebox (where I routed the cable
to). It also charges the iPod.

I assume if you use a Kenwood steering wheel adaptor...

    http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/technologies/stalk_adaptors/

    it'll all hang together.

I bought the BMW kit to fit to ours, but it's a pile
of shite. It replaces the 6-CD changer, so you can't
use both, and only works on a "playlist" rather than
full playback control. It also doesn't show text in
the OBC either. It went back on ebay and I made a
    fiver, so it ended well.

    is.

Mine's pre-MP3 but I'd have to agree with the sentiment.

Not sure about about the steering wheel remote, but I fitted one of
these in the wifes high-and-dry coupe.

    http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-cde9850ri-ipod-full-speed-p-4679.html

I do quite a lot of miles her car and find it useful to have the iPod
(and a proper iPod interface) on long runs. However, I still mostly
used predefined playlists because if you have a lot of music on the
iPod scrolling through a long list of albums / artists can be
hazardous. I've almost stacked it on a couple of occasions so now
    stick to playlists wherever possible.
