  3. Best simulator *ever* is V4Victory, on a big screen. Joey Dunlop doing
    (IIRC) a sub-20 minute lap.

See it on a decent screen, not on a (small) TV.

I saw it on a home movie screen, with about 30 other people (can't
remember how that came about), and at one point I looked round, and
everyone was leaning this way and that in their seats :)))

There's one bit where Joey goes ---><--- that close to a stone wall, and
there's a stone that protrudes about three inches from the surface, and
    *everybody* jumped.

"Thor's a stowan thar that stacks owt from the wow-all......"

You want to play two different IOM laps simultaneously,
side by side, so you can race, for example,
Mick Grant (You're On Your Own) against Joey Dunlop (V4 Victory).
You can pause Joey when he gets too far ahead.

They were doing that in the cinema at Douglas when I watched it the
first time. June '83 - gawd I feel old. I think he'd recorded it the
    week before in practice.
    Sounds familiar.
    <engages VCR>

Straw bale - wrapped around a telegraph pole along the southern
    stretch.

"... there's a bale here, always gets in the way. Just on the left
hand side, coming out this. That bale ... there. Seems to stick out."

It's about 13 seconds before Ballacraine, if that helps.

.... and a bit later, on the way to Ballaugh Bridge: left-right between
    walls ...

"you can get through it alright, but you can hit your helmet on the
    wall" =8-0

I've pillioned most of it with Ferrier. While (I was) drunk. Great
    fun. Recommended.

  8. Ah! I was nearly right. I knew something sticking out and a wall figured
    somewhere. Cheers.

    Utterly amazing film, anyway.

    He was a bit slow.
Dunno if he's a big girl's blouse or
he didn't want the wind to put his meerschaum out. :)

I thought he was just having a nice little bimble, and giving the PRs time
to spot him before he pissed all over them with his lardy big trailie.

I thought that was good going for such a lardy trailie type thing.

Interesting range of views. Note: if you read the rest of the thread
it's not such a lardy trailie type thing. More of an R1100S/R1150GS
hybrid. My bog standard GS sounds asthmatic in comparison.

According to Iain Duffus' lap on TT2000, it's Handley's Bends.

He was indeed. My 1150 was struggling to pull 110 up the mountain mile.
His 1200 was quite easily pulling 120. However, it's still the wrong bike
for that particular piece of road. I was caning the tits of mine the
whole way over the mountain and at almost every point I was muttering
darkly under my breath about *needing* another sports bike.

Oh, thought it was a 1200 from the content title.
It's still quicker than a standard, by some margin.

  17. They're incredible bikes. My only gripe is the slight lack of top end -
120+ is about your lot, and top is really an overdrive.

But the way they can be thrown around, trickled around, whatever - it's
the only really loopy BMW I've ever come across.

Heh, I'll pass on that thanks. :)
I do like the sound of that, good for the roads round here. Still looks
a bit too lardy for my tastes.
With the added bonus of not having a chain to adjust and lube. I'd have
thought you'd get tired of a bike like that rather quickly though.
I saw that program on sky the other day, about two BMWs going around the
world. They got to Europe somewhere, and the frame of one bike snapped,
in more than one place too.

Bear in mind, Joey was no tour guide when it came to the TT circuit. I
think the only two bits he mentioned by name were Ballacraine, and
    Ramsey hairpin.

It really does sound like my kind of bike, but I really wouldn't want to
own one. Sort of the same way I feel about kids and pets. :)
