IoM Ferry Question

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Wicked Uncle Nigel, Dec 9, 2005.

  1. Is it worth booking the first class seating? Tenner each way suggests
"yes", but I have no clue what they're like.

    Opinions?

The boat will be rising and falling over big waves all night, even in
    the posh bit.

As the whole ferry will be full of bikers I guess you're more likly to
meet people like Judge in the first class section.

This is a problem. Good point, well made.

Yebbut, my Oirish Sea legs are well used to the ups and downs of the
Oirish sea, see. So I'm ok.

WUN, on the other hand, might not cope so well. <WEG>

WUN has never been sick at sea, and WUN has been in very small boats in
*very* bad conditions. WUN has never been sick in an aeroplane either,
despite the very best efforts of a man inna Tiger Moff.

WUN, however, goes a very strange colour within twenty seconds of
    getting on a fairground ride.

    WUN does not understand this.

    Bugger.

Mind you, have you been on the Oirish sea ferries? They sway a little
differently to the ones going across the channel, which can be
    disconerting.

I'd like to be able to proffer some advice and say if you are booked on
the Lady of Mann to sit in the middle (otherwise known as the bar,
because, strangely, that's where it is situated..) except the LOM ain't
running any more (so I am lead to believe, by the press).
    I do. Fear. <chucks in bucket>

I guess the IoM ferry operators are pretty good with bikes. How
about taking my bike to the IoW from Southampton / Portsmouth?
My bike's only got a sidestand. It's only a short crossing and
it's rarely choppy, but does the bike need to be tied down at
all and if so, do they provide the gear to tie it down with? Can
you just stay with the bike?

  11. It's not particularly your vomit I'm thinking of, but that of others.

The sea cut up a bit rough one time I was crossing to the Island and I
was quite enjoying the bracing air outside when a chap came hurtling out
of the saloon door and chucked his contents over the rail. The wind
caught it and whirled it towards me.

Impressive, it was. Splattered the wall all around me in a graceful arch
and not a drop touched me.

Because fairground rides are bolted together by illiterate,
    un-regulated pikeys whereas passenger-carrying aircraft and sea-going
vessels have skilled, qualified engineers ensuring compliance with
    stringent regulations.

  18. I managed note to be sick on boats for years, the only time I recall
as a yoof followed a days binge drinking so I'll blame that not the
boat. Then about 2 years ago on a RIB during a nasty swell I felt
really ill, since then I am much more prone to felling rough.

You need to hope that Mr Green (1) decides to come then because you
can guarantee he'll be dribbling before the boat leaves Liverpool. You
are booked on a crossing from Liverpool aren't you?

    (1) I don't need to name & shame, he knows who he is.
